Fallopian Tubes?

Are you or did you have your fallopian tubes removed? I hadn't thought about this until I met with my surgeon a month ago and she said she would take mine. I didn't know if there was a benefit to leaving them or benefit to taking them...and haven't had time to research it. Just curious about this! Thanks!

Re: Fallopian Tubes?

Removing the fallopian tubes during a hysterectomy cuts your chances of ever having cancer. It is recommended to have it done with your hysterectomy for this reason. THey are of no use without a uterus so there is no point in keeping them. However, if you keep your ovaries, I believe they keep your fallopian tubes attached...but not totally sure on that. The ovaries are what you want to keep in. My doctor strongly advised against not taking my ovaries out as those house all your hormones and I would be pushed into menopause at 29. I am no doctor so don't take my word for it, but this is just what my doctor told me.... Cheers!

Re: Fallopian Tubes?

I have only my ovaries. My uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes were removed. My surgeon told me she normally takes the fallopian tubes out during a hysterectomy because they are useless at that point. Meh. I hope that helps a little.

Re: Fallopian Tubes?

My surgeons plans were to take my tubes. He said there was a reduced risk of cancer and ovarian cysts if the tubes were taken out.
Mine wound up having to stay, I had too much scar tissue internally that would have put me at a high risk for damage to my ovaries had he tried to seperate my tubes from them.

Re: Fallopian Tubes?

I had mine removed and the pathology report came back that one was covered in cysts that were not previously seen.
