Should I have my uterus removed? Worried help please

Last year my GYN diagnosed me with mild dysplastia HPV and I was instructed to have pap smears every 6 months to monitor it. Well at my next exam 6 months later the HPV had progressed to severe dysplastia and I had to have a cone biopsy. The Dr recommended that I have a hysterectomy because the condition progressed so fast and she wasn't sure if it had spread. Recently I have had a thickening of the lining of my uterus and an enlarged uterus I don't know if I should be worried about that or not. But I have always be extremely sensitive to any changes in my body. About 6 years ago I had my tubes tied and have regretted it ever since because of the changes to my body and hormones that it caused. I talked to the Drs about all my concerns and they always say that it will have no affect on my hormones and that I won't even notice a difference. Well they said that to me 6 years ago too and they were so wrong and I can't even get anyone to believe me that having my tubes tied is causing me problems so now I feel stuck with it. I just don't trust Drs anymore I don't want to believe that nothing will happen when I have my uterus removed and then be stuck with permanent problems. I don't know I just want to know what the real story is with hysterectomies that's why I'm here I guess.

Re: Should I have my uterus removed? Worried help please

Hysterectomy has different results for everyone. It's hard to say how it will affect you. Since you've had a tubal, your uterus and ovaries are already separated, so you shouldn't have any hormone troubles as a result of a hysterectomy. Also, most of what you are thinking is being caused by the tubal may symply be symptoms caused by your enlarged, thickened uterus. A diseased uterus can be more unpleasant.

My sister has been through HPV, having a bit of it frozen off and then needing a cone biopsy 5 years later. But hers was slow growing. If I had an aggressive form of cervical cancer, I'd have my uterus and cervix removed without a second thought.

I hope other ladies here offer you more stories and advice that help you with your decision.

Re: Should I have my uterus removed? Worried help please

Hello Supertassie,

I was reading your post, because I to was diagnosed with dysplasia back in 2006. I could not get treatment at first due to being pregnant. Then I went back because my gyn at the time said that sometimes dysplasis/HPV can clear up on its own. Well like yours mine was very fast growing, so I ended up getting a cone biopsy and two leep procedures before I finally had a normal pap smear in 2010. As for enlargement of the uterus and thickening of endo I do not have experiance with that. I do however still get lots of heavy bleeding, long painful periods, and my moods are always all over the place with pain on my right side.
Usually when they treat dysplasia it does not spread, but in your case it seems there is some concern with that.

If there is no rush with getting a hysterectomy and you are not having lots of issues because of enlarged uterus and endometrial lining I would first get testing done such as, endometrial biopsy to check for cancer. Also, have they only treated the dysplasia once? Sometimes it takes more than once to treat it. As I said above I had to have a cone biopsy and two leep procedures before it was gone. Also at the time my reason for not having a hyster was a personal choice as I was to young, and did not want to go through a hormonal rollercoaster. I explored many different options first as hystersisters advice, because as I am sure you know a hysterectomy is a major surgery, and can cause other complications afterwards.

This is just advice, and a little on my experiance with dysplasia. I know it is a tough choice when considering a hysterectomy as I am going through the choice right now. I also have explored many options before considering a hysterectomy, because I to am a little worried about the effects it will have on my body. Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision and I wish you the best.

Re: Should I have my uterus removed? Worried help please

Thank you I haven't thought of doing an endometrial biopsy. I might look into that. Another part of my concern is that I tried that HCG diet I first experienced a complete personality change and after my second round I had a massive grand mal seizure and was hospitalized for three days. Now I've had to deal with having a seizure disorder. I know that the HCG is a hormone and I can.only.link my current condition to that. So that just kind of adds to my concerns.
.....I know I'm a mess ........
