Surgery was Oct. 1 -should I still a lot of pain?

Hi I had a hysterectomy on Oct 1. Six months ago I had one ovary removed as well as 4 hours of endometriosis removal. However the biopsies showed I had adenomyosis on my uterus and I still had horrible pain, hence the decision for the hysterectomy. When she went in the endo had come back aggressively so the other ovary was removed as well. Due to how aggressive my endo is she put me on estrogen and progesterone. I am taking estrodot 50 ug (Canadian) and promethium 100 mg. I am pretty teary at times so not sure if it is not the right dose or just the adjustment and post op feelings.

I had a hematoma that was huge and discovered in the recovery room. It had to drained and it was in the oblique muscle so my abdomen turned black and blue. I had a lot of pain from the hematoma the first two weeks. The last week I was able to go off th narcotic pain meds. I've been trying to walk a little farther each day, today I walked about 10 min. And I couldn't make it home as I had so much pain, had to take the narcotics again and 5 hours later I am still having pain. It feels internal.

Is this normal?

Re: Surgery was Oct. 1 -should I still a lot of pain?

It's definitely normal to still be in a lot of pain. Your surgery was only 3 weeks ago. For me, week 3 was my worst in terms of pain. Week 4 was still really bad, but I seemed to start feeling a little better week 5. By week 6 I felt back to normal, just a little tired. Don't feel bad if you're still hurting a lot. Just listen to your body, go back to bed, and take your meds to stay on top of the pain. You'll heal a lot better if you aren't hurting. We all heal differently - you'll get there in your own time.

Thanks so much, it doesn't help that I now have a terrible cold. I guess I just feel stressed that I need to get back to work in just over 2 weeks as I am running out of sick leave.

No fever. My sister flew out to help take care of me and my finally and unfortunately she brought a cold. But I am feeling very emotionally down.

Re: Surgery was Oct. 1 -should I still a lot of pain?

Between the drugs and the hormone craziness of surgical menopause feeling down is pretty normal. I'm guessing that being sick is helping nothing on that front as well.

Take it one day at a time and make sure you're giving your body the nutrients it needs to heal and fight the cold. I have found it helps me to not be so hard on myself when I know I'm doing everything I can to heal. What happens after that is out of my control.

If you need to talk something out we're always just a click away.
