Those who had TVH - please advise!

I had TVH with lots of repair work (enterocele repair, cystorectocele repair with repliform mesh augmentation, and sacrospinous fixation of the vagina - whatever all that is). I don't go back to the doctors till Nov. 1. My problem is that I still have trouble sitting. I have some pinching and some pressure. I told the dr. about it at the 1 week checkup - he said "normal." I'm abit down today thinking this will never be the same. I just missing doing things (even going to a movie). Has anyone else had this trouble? How soon till things get better? Thanks!

Those who had TVH - please advise!

Hi Almost50
I had a similar surgery to yours and can assure you at almost 3 weeks out what you are experiencing is very normal. I had to use a donut pillow to help me sit and even then I had to limit how much of it I did. You had a lot of trauma to that area of your body and it stands to reason putting pressure on it would be uncomfortable.
Has your dr recommended sitz baths or is that allowed for you? My dr had me do them a couple of times a day and it helped a lot. You might want to ask about them. I know it sounds awkward but you might also find some relief using an ice pack to the area. I would use a warm rice bag on my tummy and ice for my crotch.
You just have to pace yourself and listen to your body as you heal and when you start hurting don't push yourself to stand or sit beyond what you are able. It will heal in time so try to be patient with the process. Wish I could give better news, but I can say that now I'm happy with all the work I had done. It was well worth the temporary discomfort. I can also say you'll do better if you don't try to push through any pain. When you hurt, go lie down. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Those who had TVH - please advise!

Hi.

I had a TVH, with several complications, and yes, I still have episodic pain. It doesn't seem to be directly related to how much work or strain I put on myself. It just seems to come on its own. I find it a bit unsettling as well, since I'm of the humble opinion that I should be back to my old self again...and yet, I am not. My doc. appointment is on 10/25, and I really thought that would be the hallmark of wellness. I think we tend to look at that date on the calendar, and say, "On that day, I'll be my old self again." I rather think I've been deluding myself. Just look at some of the others in this forum who are 3, 4, 6 months post-op, and still experiencing pain.

It could also be related to the fact that there were nerves affected by the surgery, and of course, they have their own timetable for healing, which is quite different from mesentery tissue, organ tissue and even vascular tissue.

Just my thoughts on the topic. Hopefully, we'll both be pain free in the future. At least, that's what I'm praying for.

God bless,
Sarah
