Lifting limit

Curious what lifting restriction you had and for how long after what type surgery. Dr told me I could lift 20 pounds at 6 wk appt after lapro hyster, bladder sling and rectocele repair. I see others with much stricter limits and wondered if my doc is right. I am 7 wks post now and have picked up and carried my 15 pound grandson some but that is the most I've done and hope it isn't messing me up.

Re: Lifting limit

Some doctors have stricter limits than others, but you have to make the decision if its too much for you. If your grandson is 5 pounds under your restriction, and your not hurting for it, than you haven't messed anything up. Just keep in mind not to over do it. You are still recovering and if you start to feel strained, then rest a while.

If your doctor cleared you, they probably feel you are healing well. Best of wishes.

Re: Lifting limit

My surgeon gave no restrictions. He said if I felt like it and it didn't hurt, then go ahead. But, I did not have the additional procedures you did. Mine was just the removal of the uterus and cervix.

Re: Lifting limit

I had an LSH, kept my ovaries and cervix. Was sent home without any restrictions, just to take it easy and rest as much as possible. On POD#5 I carried a 25# bag of dog food in the house very carefully and without any harm. At my 2-week check-up, my surgeon gave me the all-clear to resume all normal activities. Hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon!!

Re: Lifting limit

I had many, many repairs and a bladder sling with my total hysterectomy. I was not allowed to lift virtually anything for 12 weeks (DR says it takes that long for body to heal to 80%). Now I can't lift anything over 30 lbs and I think he means forever. I am ok with that, but my grandaughter is 35 lbs. We have worked out a way that she crawls up to my lap, so I can still hold her. It is worth it not to have to deal any longer with a stage 4 prolapse.
