Obese and Davinci robotic hysterectomy - good idea?

Hi, New to forum. I am 36 years old and have an ovarian cyst and large fibroid. The doctor wants to perform the Davinci on me. I have read awful things online regarding robotic surgery.

Thoughts? I am 5'*" and 285 lbs. I recently lost 100 pounds and have a large apron over hang on my stomach.

They said vaginal is not an option. Should I ask them to skip robot and do the laproscopic instead?

Re: Obese and Davinci robotic hysterectomy - good idea?

My doctor is doing the davinci tomorrow on my. At least that's the plan, and I'm big too. I actually think it'll be easier than open, especially on healing.

Re: Obese and Davinci robotic hysterectomy - good idea?

I'm scared after reading all the complications from the robot. I also had weight loss surgery last year and am scared how it will react with my sleeve (stomach).

Re: Obese and Davinci robotic hysterectomy - good idea?

My doctor won't do the Da Vinci on me because I'm Obese I weigh 298. I would ask for Laprascopic for your safety. An endometrial specialist did the Da Vinci robotic surgery on me july 2012 weighing in at 280 and I had complications. I know it's different for each person. The risks are scary and at the time I remember even the specialist telling me "Run" the morning of my surgery after she listed what could go wrong because of all the stomach fat I have.
If I were you opt out of it! Can he do laprascopic?
Best of luck,
Lisa

Re: Obese and Davinci robotic hysterectomy - good idea?

I was told robot was better because the arms reach further in, also am obese and they said laproscopic wasnt even an option if your fat because they cant get thru all the fat layers hence the use of the longer reachin robotics

Re: Obese and Davinci robotic hysterectomy - good idea?

hmm I guess it depends on the patient and doctor. There are benefits to Da Vinci. I just know from personal experience the precautions of being obese and having it done. Then again that's just me and everybody is different.
