Cronic Pain--hematoma

Hello,
Can someone please help. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and was feeling great until about 4 days ago. I got another infection on my left side at my incision site, it was a little red and sore. I started antibiotics again and the redness went away however the pain has intensified each day. I haven't been able to even shower for 4 days it hurts so bad to even stand up. I'm fine as long as I'm sitting down but when I stand it is intense constant pain and hurts to walk or stand. They changed my antibiotic, did a CT and found nothing. There thinking it is fatty necrosis and said the body should absorb it. I don't think the doctor understands the pain I am in because when you look at my incision it looks great now but pain is severe. Please help. I'm thinking about insisting on a MRI or cutting me open to see if they left something behind.
thanks,

Re: Cronic Pain

My Doctor just called and said they re looked at the CT scan and it is not fatty necrosis, it is a hemotoma and he wants to give it a week to see if it will heal itself. If not then they will do another CT to see if it has grown.

I am sorry you are dealing with so much pain! Did your doctor give you pain meds today once the hematoma was discovered?

Hematomas can resolve on their own so hopefully yours will soon!

in there!

Re: Cronic Pain--hematoma

I had similar pain and the CT showed fluid - they can't really tell from a CT of it is a hematoma or just fluid or if it is an abcess. Since I also had a 99.8 fevr, they put me on an antibiotic just in case. My incision looks great but the pain in the groin area as excruciating.

My dr suggested trying to increase my walking by short distances even though it really hurt to walk since this would help the fluid reabsorb. Surprisingly, the walking did get easier and after one week the pain is gone. Have faith, it truly can resolve on its own without any surgical intervention. Take a couple of pain pills then try to walk a short distance (with someone by your side of course and just around the house at first). It will hurt but it should also help the hematoma/fluid reabsorb and ultimately ease the pain. Of course, check with your dr before doing anything.

Take care!!

Re: Cronic Pain--hematoma

I"m sorry your dealing with this. I have had 2 hematomas, both had to be removed surgically. One was 3 years ago when the dr tore my right ovary opened and left me to bleed internally and the pain was horrid. I had to have it removed via laprascopy. It took 3 times to clean me out the hematoma was so big, it filled my entire pelvic cul de sac.

The second time was because the cut open my bladder 1" hole and had to repair the hole and remove the hematoma.

They are the worst and extremely painful. If left inside they coagulate and can turn into scar tissue.

SOME can resolve on their own.

Re: Cronic Pain--hematoma

I have one that is/has resolved on its own, but was told that many women have some that do not. It initially was so painful I could not move. Bending over in a fetal position was all I could manage. I was told that overdoing it would worsen the condition and possibly start others, so I had to 'sit tight' and let it do its thing. Luckily, mine started draining and I haven't had any major issues from it. I never had a CT scan, but did have an internal exam at 2.5 weeks and my doc concluded that was what it was.

I pray a quick resolve to this situation.
