Calling all Nail Techs, Hair Dressers, Etc.!!
Hello everyone,
I am a nail technician and I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on Sept. 13. Since I am self-employed and my job revolves around appointments, I am frustrated by not knowing how long to tell my clients I will be gone. I know everybody is different and everyone has a different recovery time, but I was wondering if there were any fellow sisters in the beauty industry who have had a hysterectomy and how they handled the going back to work thing.
I actually stand to do nails, but I do have the option of sitting if I need to. I was also wondering if anyone does pedicures and how long it took them to get back into that.
Thanks for any advise.

Calling all Nail Techs, Hair Dressers, Etc.!!
Hi! Kat!! I am a hairdresser that had my surgery on july21.Going back to work aug 20.I am not still how i will do because i also had a hernia repair at the same time.I am so sore if i stand to long or for that matter sit to long. I am self employeed also with a big clientle i miss them and the money, but you only have one chance to heal right. Funny thing is my customers are very understanding more so than my coworkers!!!!!!!They called me one time two weeks ago, only to see when i was coming back. They had the nerve to make me feel bad for not coming in the answering phones, towels etc. I am NOTgetting paid for that.Plus if my customers see me there ,they will. think i can work on them and knowing me i would do it. So my advice for you rest, recover do what docter tells you to do. And dont visit the salon to soon!!!!!! I did at two weeks besause i was so bored!!! BIG MISTAKE!!!!! They are telling my customers that i am practically healed!!!!Long way from that!! Good luck to you and hope all goes well.

Hey wildhairbender,
Glad to hear from you! I can't believe your coworkers gave you a trip about not folding towels and answering the phone! I wonder if any of them have gone through a major surgery. My situation is a little different because I work with my mom out of her house. She doesn't expect me to come back until I'm ready. I told my clients I would definitely take a full 4 weeks off and then do just a couple of clients every day or so until I feel up to full time again. I just don't know when I would be able to do pedicures. There's a lot of bending, pulling and pushing to set up the foot jacuzzi and clean it up. I can't rely on Mom to help, she has her own clients to work with. Fortunately, the big pedicure season is almost over. All of my clients understand and tell me to just heal and then let them know when. I feel bad about letting them just hang until I know more--which probably won't happen until all of a sudden!
Anyhow, I appreciate the reply and I hope you take it easy and don't overdo.
Kat
