sexual issue

I tried to post this in sexual dysfunction, but it would not allow me to.

My bladder fistula is healed. Today I saw my urogyn and had the final cystoscopy. No leaking, no problems since Easter.

He did a pelvic and rectal exam. It was tender and uncomfortable! My gosh, how could it not be? He put some sliver nitrate on my vaginal cuff because of granulation. Fine.

After the pelvic and rectal exam he told me it should not still be tender and uncomfortable. He told me sex was really going to hurt. So, he wanted to set me up for a CAT SCAN to make sure I have no mass, scar tissue or something else (I can't remember, my head was swimming!). If I had an mass, that would have been found and I would have been in pain way before now.

Now I'm really nervous about sex! What the heck, am I supposed to not find a pelvic and rectal exam uncomfortable?

Also, a CAT SCAN? Really? Those should never be given for minor issues! I'm not stupid, yet he laughed at me over my concern! I hate his bed side manner!

I told him I would try sex and if I have a problem, I'll call for another appt.

It is possible the tenderness was due to the granulation. I was quite uncomfortable until granulation was found at 5 months post op. The silver nitrate cleared it up and I have been fine since then.

You can always get a second opinion from another doctor if you find that sex is painful or you still have tenderness. So glad your fistula is healed!

Molly, that is my suspicion as well - the granulation. Also, when he did the pelvic exam, he was pusing with his one hand all across the large scar from my abdominal surgery (when my bladder was repaired. It was hooked with a suture while the surgeon sewed up the vaginal cuff). The scar is still tender.

As for the rectal exam, he was NOT gentle at all! Of course I'm going to react as if it is tender and uncomfortable.

Went ahead and tried things this afternoon. I was in the control position and took it slow. Things only got "half way", if you know what I mean. The good news? I did not hurt, and I'm not hurting now either. I think I just need to be patient with myself, and practice often.

Thank you I'm almost 6 months out. This all has been a very trying experience for me, my husband, my family. I thank God for healing.

I am sure it has been very trying. That is a long time for you and your hubby to be patient.

I just read that after a silver nitrate treatment to wait anywhere from a couple days to a week before intercourse. We did the same day. My uro/gyn did NOT tell me any of this. I hope this does not compromise the work that the silver nitrate is supposed to do!

I didn't wait either. It was not a problem for me and my doctor did not tell me to wait.

To update, the surgeon that did my hysterectomy advised me to go ahead and have the CT scan and ultrasound like the uro/gyn wanted me to do. I called him and discussed it with him. I told him I'm not too happy with the uro/gyn, so he said I did not have to see him again, unless absolutely necessary, or he would find me a new uro/gyn.

I had the CT scan last week and am having the ultrasound tomorrow. I also developed a bladder infection and am on cipro now.

If anything comes of these cans, I'll updated.
