Cold/Flu (?) Symtoms After Hysterectomy - Four-Weeks Post-Op

I Am Sick! It began with a sore throat approximately three days ago. Now, I have a sore throat (no one can understand me), a stuffy nose, horrible congestion, and a nasty dry cough. The fatigue was getting better from surgery. I'm back in bed ... completely exhausted. I have had a very low-grade fever one or two times. Nothing major.

I don't want to be a baby. My immune system is down and I probably just caught a cold. Yet, something is telling me I need to contact my doctor. Should I? If so, do I call my Gynocologist/Surgeon to inform him? Do I call my regular doctor? (It's Saturday night - I'll have to wait until Monday morning.)

Has anyone else dealt with this? Is it normal to get a cold/flu (whatever!) after major surgery?

I just completed a ten day regimen of antibiotics for a UTI.

Re: Cold/Flu (?) Symtoms After Surgery - Four-Weeks Post-Op

Sorry to hear that you are feeling under the weather with a cold/flu Tara. As if we don't have enough to deal with recovering from our hysterectomies. Give your doctor a call if you feel the need to, I would probably call my GP. Unfortunately viruses can attack at any time. I hope feel better soon.

Take care

I got a cold 2 weeks after surgery. Not nice as the coughing was horrible on my tummy. I just took all the regular stuff to get better.

I got the flu 5 weeks post op. Fever for 5 days with headache and fatigue. Recovery from flu was worse than the surgery. The week before the flu I was sewing curtains and walking.

Thank you for all the responses! I tend to diagonose myself. This time, I'll call my doc. He can, at the very least, put my mind at ease by reassuring me it's such a cold.

Another one who caught a vicious bug five weeks out. I was in bed quite literally for two days straight before I could get up and totter around. I think these things hit you harder when you're recovering. It'll pass, but it's ugly while you have it. *hug*

Born,

Thank you for your response! It always helps to know others have experienced the same thing.

I called my GP/Internist, who told me to call my Gyno/Surgeon. His nurse is calling in a stronger antibiotic for my UTI, which will not go away. In regard to the cold (?), she said the previous antibiotic I took for the UTI should have cleared any infection in the Respiratory System. I am suppose simply "treat the symptoms" of the cold. If I do not feel a positive change in three days regarding the cold and/or the UTI, I am to call back.

I cannot wait to feel good again!

Re: Cold/Flu (?) Symtoms After Hysterectomy - Four-Weeks Post-Op

I am 7 weeks post op today and have had a severe flu/tonsillitis for last 1.5 weeks. I didn't want to post anything because I feel like such a whinger because at this stage I feel like I should be running around and feeling like a new woman. I'm a bit disheartened because was feeling great and mood was good and recovery had been not too bad. Now I don't feel like going out or doing anything much, which isn't me.
Can't wait to go back to work and focus on other things. Hopefully my immune system responds the same way and I don't have to take any sick leave for the next year (that's my aim anyway!)
❤️❤️😃

Loch,

It's difficult! We are still healing from major surgery. You need to take time to heal from the surgery and the flu/tonsillitis. Give yourself a break.
