Hrt???

I had a TAH Dec 29, 2007 (everything's gone). I am now 5 weeks and 1 day into recovering and so far so good. I am still a bit sore and tender around my incision and I get tired easily. I am moody on occasions and I hate the hot flashes and night sweats . I am not taking any HRT. I would rather deal with those side effects than the ones from Premarin. I hope they won't last too long. Has anyone else decided not to take HRT?

Hrt???

I don't take them, to me there are too many risks. You might ask your dr about putting you on Effexor, an antianxiety/antidepressant that seems to help a lot of people with menopausal symptoms.

Hrt???

mrs.missy I too decided not to take HRT. I too had a TAH/BSO. I am having hot flashes during the day and awake with them 2 to 3 times a night. Have not noticed too bad of mood swings yet. Hopefully things will not get any worse and stay like this. We'll see. How long does it last? Years? Let's keep in touch so we can compare. Hang in there.

Hrt???

I went to Wal Mart and bought some dietary supplements, NewPhase. They seem to be taking th edge off of the hot flashes, especially at night. I go back for my 6 weeks check up next week, I am going to ask my doctor about bio identical hrt. I not too worried about the hot flashes and night sweats, I am worried about what the long term effects will be not having a natural menopause with ovaries. But I sure don't miss the periods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hrt???

Mrsmissy,

Yes, there are ladies who don't take hrt. I am one of them.

Here are a few things I have learned.

-Talk to your doctor and let him/her know you don't intend to use hrt.
-Have a back up plan. I started not using hrt. At 11 weeks I went on ert I tried a few different types and made a decision not use hrt.

-we have a forum here that may help you No Hormone Oasis

this is a forum for ladies who have chosen to or can't take hrt.

-I bought a chillow at 2 weeks after surgery and it is a blessing I swear by it.

-some ladies like a fan on them.

-in the hormone jungle tab there is a hot flash cocktail.

Hot Flash Cocktail
• 400 IU vitamin e (mixed d-tocopherols)
• 500-600 mg calcium citrate with 400 IU vitamin d
• 200 mg magnesium citrate
• 500 mg vitamin c with bioflavonoids
• Omega-3 fatty acids (equivalent of 360 mg DHA & 240 mg EPA)

- I also use natural progesterone cream, natural estrogen creme, and vitex.

- if you are interested in natural progesterone cream, natural estrogen creme I would recommend reading the book What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause by Dr John Lee. There is a wealth of information in there.

- the one thing to remember is that finding what works best takes some trial and error, but you can find balance.

best of luck,

Hrt???

Dear Mrs. Dolittle (Sharon)
Where do you buy a "chillow" and exactly what is it? Thanks. It sounds good to me!!! Also about the cocktail...Is this over the counter vitamin pills that you take altogether? Thanks for the information.

Hrt???

the chillow is available at the store here. It is a cooling device and it doesn't have to be refrigerated. The cocktail is over the counter and the vitamins are not together. I have found a calicum and magnesium together though.

Best of luck to you.
