Is this normal for a pre-op visit?

What is normally done at a pre-op appointment?

I had my pre-op appointment yesterday, and the only thing my doctor did was go over the same info he gave me at the last appointment, and I signed a few forms, that was it. No bloodwork, no exams, nothing. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes.

I remember all the pre-ops from my c-sections, and I spoke to the anesthesiologists, they took vital signs, did physicals, etc, they didn't do any of this yesterday.

They said they'd do my bloodwork the day of surgery. I thought it would make more sense to have the results ahead of time.

Is this normal for a pre-op visit?

I had the same question as you before my surgery too. All I did at my pre-op was sign a consent form and that was it. The hospital admitting called the day before my pre-op and asked a couple of questions that was it. Then the anest. called the night before surgery. That was all I had to do. I guess that things have just changed now. I went through lots more before my c-sections too.

I also had the same thing at my pre-op. Had my SAH surgery on 1/21/05. However, the day of surgery they will ask you to come in an hour or two earlier. At that time, they will take urine, blood and do an EKG. I guess the days of doing your pre-admission testing are over!!

Best wishes to you on your surgery. Everything will work out fine.
