Keep ovaries?

I posted last month asking for help and support making a decision. Since then I have had a cone biopsy. My doctor before the biopsy was recommending a hysterectomy but wanted to do the cone first. The results of the cone were CIN 2,3,&4. Also a vaginal nodule was removed and that was CIN 3. I have an appointment on the 25th to discuss the options. I am a DES exposed, 51(on the 30th) year old menopausal sister. What do I need ovaries for? I ask this because in a previous post someone said keep them if at all possible!

I would really like some input on this and any other thoughts or experiences that might be relevant!

Keep ovaries?

I have been told that if you can keep your ovaries, you will most likely not have to take horome medication. The reason is your ovaries will produce the horomes that you will need for your body; unless the ovaries are not functioning for whatever reason.

Keep ovaries?

yes, I understand that... but... are those the same hormones we take when we go through menopause? HRT therapy? If so, I don't take them now. I would be in a world of hurt if I had ever taken any form of estrogen.

Keep ovaries?

I was 52 when I had my hysterectomy a little over two years ago. I didn't find Hyster Sisters until two months after my surgery.......too late for me to learn that even after menopause, your ovaries continue to provide necessary hormones, although in much lesser amounts than before menopause.

My surgeon suggested taking the ovaries. I figured I didn't need them anymore, so I said "sure, go ahead". I thought I'd start HRT and everything would be fine. I was wrong. Three weeks after my hysterectomy I was admitted with a blood clot. (I found out later that it was caused by an inherited blood clotting disorder which I didn't know I had.) To make a long story short, I will never be able to take hormones. Had I known this, I would have kept my ovaries. LIving with the symptoms of menopause these past two years have been difficult at best.

Read this thread and pay close attention to the response by Savh.

Research all you can about the usefulness of ovaries and bring what you learn to your doctor. Talk to him about it and together you will be able to make the best decision for you.

Best wishes,
