Stretching - is it ok?

I have always had a problem with my back. This morning, when I woke up, I had that familiar tight feeling. My first urge was to start stretching, as I am accustomed to doing. I'm 8 days post op. How much stretching is okay? Obviously, I'm not ready to do all my back exercises, but is a stretch going to hurt anything in my belly?

Re: Stretching - is it ok?

My dr. said absolutely no stretching until 6 week check up. I love to exercise and it was hard but my recovery has been excellent.

Re: Stretching - is it ok?

I was told no stretching until I was released at 6 weeks. You do not want to hurt a stitch or anything like that. Moving gently would probably not hurt but I would be on the safe side especially this early. Best wishes.

Re: Stretching - is it ok?

I think the kind of stretching you are doing is ok. Trust me you will know if you do too much. As soon as I was given the ok, which started at 6 weeks, I started exercising which includes aerobics, yoga, gym machines, swimming and stretching. My surgery was April 20 and I still feel the pull and tug if I exercise a different muscle in my ab area. As I said my dr who is in favor of exercise would not let me do anything other than walking. I walked a lot during my 6 week recovery. More each day. Good luck. I am sure you are fine.
