Am I making the right decision???
I've just discovered this site and feel like I finally have the place to ask the questions and get the answers! I turn 45 next month and have had severe endometriosis for about 20 years. In the late eighties, I had five laporoscopies and one abdominal surgery. My symptoms subsided; my marriage crumbled. Miraciously, I had a baby nine years ago and I thank God every day for her. In the last few years, the pain, HEAVY bleeding, and fatigue have returned. I've had two more laporoscopies. I'm usually too anemic to donate blood and my digestive system is always screwed up due to the adhesions. I'm ready for some relief, it's time. I plan on having the surgery late July, but I'm all of a sudden getting a bit nervous. Will I really feel better? What about sex, will I dry up? Will I gain 30 pounds? Can I climb my stairs to my own bedroom or do I sleep on the couch for awhile? How long do I have to count on friends and neighbors to drive my daughter and myself around? Last time they opened me up, I was in the hospital for 7 days. Is it still that long? Or are you booted after a night or two. HELP!!!
Any and all responses will be welcomed.
Michelle

Am I making the right decision???
Welcome Michelle, we're here to help you all the way. It is totally normal to be nervous and even questioning if you really want to do this. For me, I knew that I wanted it and never changed my mind. That doesn't mean I wasn't a tad antsy the day before my surgery!! Ask us every question you can think of and certainly someone will have an answer if not many. On the home page~~click on the princess above left or the word home on the small print. When you scroll down on the left side will be a list of articles that will be very beneficial. Ther's a list of questions to ask the doctor that you can print out, things to take to the hospital, and others. If you do a "search" (again small print) you can type in a word to help you find a posts on a particular subject.
My hospital stay was from Tuesday to Friday morning. My doc let me stay an extra night just because I think my DH needed an extra night's sleep before he had to deal with me! Certainly by Friday morning I was anxious to get home.
Many ladies are told not to drive anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks post op. Most will say yes, they feel better and wish they had done the hyst. sooner. I didn't gain 30 pounds in fact after a couple of pounds gained from lack of doing anything at all for 6 weeks, I started exercising and have now lost 20. Sex....no problems. I climbed my stairs several times a day and felt it aided in my recovery and I slept in my own bed every night but used lots of pillows to build a "nest" and settled in. It kind of reminded me of laying in a recliner actually because I had a folded blanket under my knees and pillows as armrest and several stacked up for my shoulders because it hurt me to lay flat.
We're here to help.

Am I making the right decision???
Oh Michelle,
Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! You sound alot like I did just 5 short weeks ago.I am 37(38 next month) , I am pre. Tah/bso & appendix . I go in next Tuesday the 17th of June. I was terrified a few weeks ago, until I joined the HS chat room. I met so many beautiful women both pre& post.I gained confidence that my decision was the best thing for me by reading every post I could get my hands on & by listening to my Post sisters & soaking up their recovery stories & wisdom.
I am ready to take control of my body back & am looking forward to feeling Good again, Its been so long.I also bought the Land of Hyster book & have read it cover to cover twice. So much information out there medically about the different surgeries avaliable. But, I take comfort in getting to know the women that have gone before me.They have answered alot of my questions with kindness & caring.
To be honest I had 6 weeks to prepare. Week #1 I was numb..OH my God I need a what? Week #2 I was an information gatherer. Week #3 I become a nest builder making my bedroom & house ready for my recuperation. Week #4 Fear set in & I turned to my sisters here& recieved comfort & caring( 2/3's of my post sisters felt the same way I was feeling).
week #5 I am nail biter again.Haha! But I know that for me I am ready & here I sit waiting & waiting.
Soon , I will be a new woman no cramping, bleeding 24/7 no more wishing for relief, its on its way. I am about to become 100% Hyster sister
Good luck in your journey & your decision.Just please know that a hysterectomy is just a surgical procedure, it is NOT who we are. We are beautiful & intelligent& caring & oh boy are we strong( no man could endure all this & still looks Mahvelous in lipstick!!)
