Upcoming hysterectomy 7/13: Pre op blues

Hello ladies! After my pre op appointment today, I find myself a ball of nerves! First, listening to my doctor go over "what could happen" was worrisome! Next, finding out I have a heart murmur made me real nervous! I'm so ready to get this surgery over with!!

Re: Pre op blues

Hi stwatson to HysterSisters!

I am so glad you found this site.

Your nerves and emotions are very normal. Your doctor has to tell you about all of the possibilities of what can happen. Do know that these are relatively rare, and that most women go through and recover from this surgery just fine. Obviously, your heart murmur was found during your pre-op, so your doctor's know about it.

Just know that you are not alone in this. We are here for you.

Hi, my hysterectomy is also July 13. Just went for my pre op and also concerned about the "what could happen." I get more nervous as the day gets closer. I am just ready to get this behind me. Best of luck to you! ((HUGS))

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 7/13: Pre op blues

Try to breathe and know that because your doctors know about the murmur, they will take extra precautions because of it. I, myself, have had a stroke, a heart attack, and I have a heart monitor implant that monitors my heart 24/7. My cardiologist signed off on the surgery without a second thought... They won't do surgery if they think your heart is not strong enough (unless absolute emergency of course). Put your faith in the Divine and your trust in your doctors. They won't do anything to unduly risk your life.

Love and bunches of hugs!!!

Upcoming hysterectomy 7/13: Pre op blues

My surgery is also on 7/13. I keeping thinking about being put to sleep. It freaks me out. But I unexpectedly had an early period this weekend. I was freaked about about having "pass out" potential pain. Had to call the doc and was able to take a narcotic I already had at home. Well that fear of pain that seizes me every month and yesterday, solidified my decision to have this surgery. So now I am more positive because I know I have to have this done to improve my quality of life. I just keep praying but now that I prayed and gave it to God I need to focus on finishing my to do list tomorrow and relax into a new chapter that will start on 7/13.

Keep positive and focused on knowing this is the best decision. Let's do this!!!

I am also concerned about being put to sleep. I think it concerns me as much as the surgery. I continue to pray about it and ask the Lord to give me peace. Sending you prayers and positive thoughts!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 7/13: Pre op blues

If I can help ease your fears ladies...

I've had a stroke and a heart attack and I have a cardiac monitor implant. Putting me to sleep is "extra special" because my heart is already compromised. That part of surgery is the least of my worries -- it's something like less that 1% of complications/deaths in surgery is due to being put to sleep. I think that is the ONE thing that they have most control of because they are administering and monitoring the meds constantly. Put your faith in your Divine Light and your trust into the skill of your surgeons. All will be well. I'm 3 days post-op and doing well...
