Awake during surgery?
I am going to be awake during my surgery and would like to know just how awake that will be. Some of my friends that have done this, actually sleep through the entire thing. My Dr says it will only take a hour for the surgery. It's not that I don't mind sleeping through the surgery, I just don't really want to be totally out. (I would rather be totally out later in my room!) I know they give sedatives for the surgery, but could I ask for less rather than more?

Awake during surgery?
If you are the kind of "awake" I was during my C section, you really won't be all there. I remember very little about actually having it done. I know I dozed in and out the whole time. All I remember about it was some pressure on my ribs after that, not much of anything. It wasn't bad, but I didn't have that sick to my stomach groggy headed feeling afterward like I did with other surgeries where I was put to sleep.

Awake during surgery?
I had a spinal ( recommended by anethesiologist) and do not remember much at all- rolling into the op. room and being delivered to my room.
They did say I waved goodbye at the end of surgery. The spinal was much better than the entire general which I had had before.
Don't worry. They will make certain you are comfortable.

Awake during surgery?
Hi, ladies. I had a Endoscopy and they gave me a amnisia kind of anestedic, I woke up and said I want to assist them. I tried to climb off the table and pull my IV and the tube out of my throat. So, I Op'ed on all the way out. That wasn't the only time I did that- so maybe for me it is for the best.. LOL..
But, You do feel aweful for a few days when you go all the way. So, thats up to you.
Good luck in what ever you chose, you are being pray'ed for!!!
Sis in waiting too,
Leslie

Awake during surgery?
i wanted so badly to be awake during my surgery and i wanted a mirror above my head so i could watch. I always wanted to be a surgeon. My gyn was gonna let me but she said we say things that you might not approve of and you can still get sick from the spinal as well as from the general. so in the end i didn't get to watch. bummer. i would love to see a hyst up close and personal.yea, i know i am crazy.

Awake during surgery?
I also opted for being "awake" for my endometrial ablation. I don't remember a thing. The nurse told me I kept talking about my dog............I don't have a dog! LOL
Good Luck and I will say a prayer for you.

Awake during surgery?
I had a D&C years ago to remove a cervical polyp. I had a spinal for it. I heard my DR say something like oh heck, or darn or shoot - something that really got my attention anyway. I got worried and kept asking him what was wrong. He said it was really nothing, just the polyp was deeper than he had thought. For my hyst I didn't want to hear anything, and I didn't, I was totally under with a general.
One other thing I remember about the spinal was the awful sensation of my legs not having any feeling and not being able to move them. It may have taken longer for me to regain the use of my legs than the norm. It was day surgery and they couldn't let me go home til early evening because it seemed like forever til the feeling returned, and then when they got me up to walk it took multiple tries until my legs would support me. The nurses seemed to be kind of concerned, they were checking with me every few minutes.
For the first 24 hours after the general I slept mostly, then I was awake more normally, the pain meds made me pretty loopy.
It's a personal decision, check with the anesthesiologist regarding how "out" you'll be.
Best wishes!

Awake during surgery?
i had an epidural and the twilight stuff that makes you not remember anything becaus i was terrified the knock out stuff would make me sick. apparently i was having in depth conversation with my doctor and my best friend from junior high who is an OR nurse for about an hour into my surgery (hadn't seen her in 12 years!). they actually were removing my uterus and i was still talking! so he opted to put me all the way out and intebate me so i wouldn't have a bunch of junk in my stomach. my doc was terrific! he knew my phobia of vomiting and he really hooked me up. i never even got nauseous!!! anyway, when they say "awake" i think that is misleading because i don't remember a thing after they gave me the amnesia drug. all in all, it was pretty neat i guess.
