da Vinci for endo scheduled for this Sat. Any suggestions for recovery??
After 14 years of heavy and painful periods, 4 laporoscopies for endo (3 being after having a baby) and a marriage that is at the end after almost 11 years due to the depression, mood swings and everything else that has come with all of this, I have finally decided to have a complete hysterectomy. I am 32 years old and would have given anything to have done this 3 years ago when my doctor told me I needed to. Maybe it would have saved my marriage. If we could only know the future would bring.
I am scheduled for this Saturday (yes, crazy that it is for Saturday) but I am curious of what I need to do for a fast, healthy recovery. Vitamins?? Diet?? I know exercise, and I can't wait to actually feel better to do that. I am having a total hyst, but possibly leaving my right ovary, if it's not too damaged. I don't go back for my post op for 4 weeks. But I am nervous. I am scared about menopause at 32!!!!!!!
I need encouragement. Especially if I am going to be a single mom to a beautiful 7 year old little girl. I have to get through this as easy as possible. I would love any suggestions!!!!
Thanks you!!!
Kim

Re: da Vinci for endo scheduled for this Sat. Any suggestions for recovery??
Kim,
I'm rooting for you! Your story sounds a lot like mine! I have suffered w endo since I was 17 (I'm 31 now). I have had 6 laps (3 after the birth of my daughter) and I just had a total hyst via DaVinci 2 wks ago. I can't say that the recovery has been super easy, but it has been manageable. I can say that despite the incisional pain, I feel better than I have in years! I no longer have that nagging crampy feeling that caused so much nausea, and exhaustion and depression. I feel like I have been given a new start, a new beginning for a healthier, happier life. Fortunately, I haven't had any mood swings or other signs of menopause. I'm sure they will come, but given where I began this journey- I feel that I can handle it. You're right, we cannot turn back time- but we can certainly embrace the future & be thankful for our beautiful girls! You have a huge community of "sisters" here to support you and cheer you on! Let me know if you have specific questions, I would be glad to answer ;-) hugs to you, Shelly

Re: da Vinci for endo scheduled for this Sat. Any suggestions for recovery??
I had the da Vinci hysterectomy 2years ago but kept one ovary for same reasons, age 38. I advise you to go ahead and take it all. I kept one it was a hard 3 months of menopause symptoms bc it took a while for ovary to start working. Night sweats were awful and ended up on an anti depressant that helped with night sweats. The ovary started working and I had about 6 months pain free. Pain returned last summer I dreaded the surgery for months. But I developed a 6cm cyst and endo on the ovary. 7 days ago I had cyst/ovary removed. Basically same recovery as before. I have 3 elem age children. I feel like I have taken ten steps back if I had just taken everything I wouldnt be doing all this again. Pain is ok only needed pain meds for 3 days. I battle nausea post op and it was awful so I told the anesth. And they gave me zophran and phenerg. No nausea ate two hours after surgery!! Expect bad shoulder pain from surgery. Start taking a stool softener tonight! That was the hardest part day 2-3. I'm up showered hair dried moving slowly around. A heating pad at the hospital is very helpful, loose pants and shirt. Tried to wear yoga pants today and got very nauseated. I have lost 6 lbs on the upside and this pain is nothing compared to what you have dealt with!! Good luck!!
