Itchy palms & arms post hysterectomy
Had a total hysterectomy on 25 January 2010, and it all went
very well. Two weeks to the day after, I began to have mild
itching on hands/elbows, accompanied by non-itchy welts on
buttocks and down my legs. Ended up in Emerg., where I
was prescribed a strong antihystamine--which is helping
somewhat. I am unable to trace changes in diet, soaps, etc.
I am beginning to wonder if this is tied to loss of hormones.
Does anyone have any experience/thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Itchy palms & arms post hysterectomy
I think our bodies are sensitive to the meds they gave us in the hospital, and adding the loss of hormones has made us vulnerable to some sensitivities in foods etc. I am just taking a guess at this, as no one seems to know for sure. We have seen it here, women itching and feeling different with their skin.
Hopefully, the antihistamine will calm it down, and your body will adjust to the shock it has gone through.

Re: Itchy palms & arms post hysterectomy
I had my TAH on January 18th and i experienced itchy welts on the insides of the backs of my legs but they only occurred at night. I wonder if it was caused my the anesthesia.

Are you taking any pain medication? Sometimes those meds have that effect!!

Re: Itchy palms & arms post hysterectomy
I'm covered in polka dots, and I thought it was a tape allergy. But the nurse thinks it's an allergy to percocet. So I'm on benadryl every 6 hours...I'm hoping I'll stop the percocet by Monday and the rash will go away.
My eczema is out of hand as well. I'm just an itchy mess. I hope this all passes soon.
