I used to get those a lot. Like so cold I felt like I could never get warm. I still get them now and then but not as bad as before. We thought perhaps it was my thyroid.

Re: Cold flashes after hysterectomy?

I get both hot and cold flashes, usually one will follow the other within a relatively short timeframe. Do you still have your ovaries? Usually the flashes are caused by a reduction in your hormone levels, which is why I asked.

Re: Cold flashes after hysterectomy?

I started with cold flashes and now I have both. I had a full removal of everything, so I was expecting hot flashes, but never thought about cold flashes.

Is this normal?

A full hysterectomy means your uterus was removed. If you had your tubes and ovaries removed, you also had a salpingo-oophorectomy.

Re: Cold flashes after hysterectomy?

I had both hot and cold. I would sometimes start out cold and then when I would do something to warm up, I would trigger a hot flash, so I would do something to get cool, and cold flash. I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but when I got really cold, I would wrap my heating pad around my feet. When I got really cold, I stood barefoot in the snow. I know there isn't a lot of snow around in a lot of places, so a soak in cold water might help. I also used a cool cloth and drank cool water. Sleeping with a towel between the length of your legs may help with nightsweats as skin on skin can get really hot.

Thanks, Elsie!

For me, my feet usually stay pretty cool (poor circulation) and I can be miserable with a heatwave and my feet are still cold. Strange. I wish we had snow; I'd definitely do that! I'll have to remember that this winter. Thanks again.
