A Very Good Idea...Worth Mentioning Again

Hi, I am now 4 months post op and doing great. Every now and then I come back here to the pre op site to tell the newbies this good idea someone gave me. Before your surgery, get one of those grabber/reaching things. They sell them in the "As Seen On TV" isle at Walmart. I don't think I could have survived without it the first few weeks. You will be amazed at the thing you need to pick up. Also great for straighning out pillows. Even for when you are resting, to reach down and pull the covers up. At $9.95 it is worth every penny. If you can't find one, Bar-b-Que tongs work well too.

YES -This was a life saver for me too!! Until it broke .
It would be better to spend a little more $$ and buy a reach stick that is one solid piece rather than those that fold in half. You can but them at Medical Supply Stores or at most Pharmacies. Good idea with the BBQ tongs!

What a cool idea! I never thought about getting a "grabber" either. I'm trying to attempt to think of everything I'm gonna need for after I come home from the castle. Thanks for the wonderful tip!!!

I sure wish I had got one of those. Never thought of the Bar-B-Q tongs though. I even have one of those. The day I came home from the castle, hubby got me into bed, brought me some drinks, my meds, turned on the TV and handed over the remote and asks me if I need anything else. I tell him I'm good for awhile. Well, he takes off for the garage. Mind you, I work full time, don't do the stay in bed thing very well. I snuggle in and turn my attention to the TV, the commercial is over and the show comes back on - Jerry Springer!! And the topic is I'M IN LOVE WITH MY SISTER!! NOOOO I yell - then I drop the remote on the floor. I can't bend over or reach the darn thing. HELP ME I yell. Why didnt I get one of those reachie things the hyster sisters recommended?? It was horrible. Finally hubby hears my desparate cries and saves the day, thank God since I was about to call 911 and tell them Jerry was holding me hostage. Get the grabber - don't let this happen to you!!!

Buy an extra one especially if it works on soap!

I seemed to be super klutzy with soap in the shower and inevitably, I would drop that slippery little bugger- one of those would have been really nice to have. O Well, hindsight is 20/20!

soap on a rope

instead of grabbers....remember soap on a rope in the shower. It hangs there so it doesn't fall. You can just melt a hole in a regular bar of soap with a hot screw driver. Slip a rope, string etc through the hole and tie the ends...viola!
