Jack-in-the-box stitch

I'm having a strange experience and wondered if anyone else has had it. Seems like a stitch in one of my lap incisions pops up for awhile, then disappears and now has come to the surface again. It happened about two weeks ago so I called the surgeon and they said to come in to have it removed but it would be a week because the dr is not in the office that much. Several days later it was gone, so I cancelled the appt. Now in the last few days, lo and behold, it has showed its little self again! So I made an appt. with my pcp because I need to talk about other issues. It's not very long but it's definitely there and if I rub on it, it hurts a bit. No sign of infection or anything. One other thought - I just started going back to the gym and had done the recumbent bike (only 10 min because I started to feel sore). Would that cause it to reappear?

I'm having the same thing with one of my stitches. Mine also comes and goes. I had my six week appointment a couple weeks ago and I mentioned this to him. He said that once the knot under the skin starts to dissolve the rest of the stitch can sometimes pop up out of the skin. This seems very odd to me, but my doctor wasn't concerned in the least. He just told me to leave it alone and it would dissolve over time.

I have one too. Really weird. This white string just kind of was there. I started gently pulling it out, thinking the part inside had probably dissolved and I could just remove it, but it started to hurt a little so I stopped. I cut it back to about even with the incision, so that at least it isn't hanging there waiting to get caught on something!

I am seeing the dr. this afternoon because I had a little spotting, so I am going to mention it to him and see what he says.

Thanks for the responses: wishonastar, that really makes sense - maybe my dr. will choose to just leave it, too.
Cathy - I had visions of picking at it and pulling it out and in the process unraveling my mesh support for the a/p repair!
