Question about adhesions from previous surgeries

So now I know that I will have a TAH BSO, and will have a vertical incision. Previously I've had a lap. appendectomy, a lap gallbladder removal, and when one of the incisions in the bellybutton didn't heal well I ended up with a hernia that had to be repaired. So I know there is mesh behind my bellybutton, but don't know how big it is, and I would assume there would be scar tissue from all three surgeries. Am I likely to have adhesions that will complicate things?

Re: Question about adhesions from previous surgeries

Hi! I would say it's highly likely. However, you won't know until they open you I've had a long history with adhesions/scar tissue as I'd had 11 laps for endo alone along with gallbladder and hernia repair.
My last couple of laps my dr would remove the adhesions from my ovary that had become attached to the back of my uterus and the next time I had a lap it was stuck again
We finally removed the left ovary only to have my right one become a tangled mess of adhesions and cysts too. It was removed with my TLAVH 11wks ago. So far, so good.

Re: Question about adhesions from previous surgeries

I too had adhesion's that I knew about going into surgery. I'm sure your doctor knows what he will probably find and is planning for it. They really don't know of course till they go in. One of my longest lasting issues, that I'm starting to wonder will ever really change at this point, is from my uterus and bladder having to be separated (they were badly adhered together). My bladder is "touchy" now, for lack of a better word. I am going to go ahead and give it a year and see if it is better, if this is it I can live with it. My doctor removed all my adhesion's while she was in there, I'm hoping they won't grow back. Good luck with your surgery!
