thought I was in the clear!!!
I am less than two weeks from surgery and thought since my Period has NEVER been regular that I would be done (I had a 4 1/2 week period in sept. ended Oct. 10) But NOOOO AF decided to make one last trip to my house and of course I can't take any meds now prior to surgery!!! UGH!!!! The cramps are bad and so is the headache! OH well.. just a few more days and I will be free!! I guess I needed to get it one more time just to remember exatly why I need this done!!!

Your dr. told you that you couldn't take any meds? My dr. gave me prescription pain killers (vicodin- tylenol and hydrocodone) to deal with my severe cramps and I was allowed to take it right up to surgery. I would give your dr. a call and see if he can recommend something so you don't have to suffer. s

My Dr. gave me a list a page and 1/2 long of all the meds that I couldn't take for two weeks prior to surgery.. EVERYTHING is on there... including tylenol and motrin. I will call tomorrow though and see if maybe I can do a motrin.

I don't know why they said no tylenol. I agree that motrin shouldn't be taken prior to surgery as it's a blood thinner and can cause more bleeding during surgery. There are other prescription pain meds with no tylenol or motrin. It may be better to call early in the morning before he starts seeing patients so he has a chance to call you back or you may have to wait till the end of the day for him to get back to you. I learned the hard way when I was very sick, I should have just called the answering service. Now I know to do that as the dr. gets back to me within ten minutes and can call in something to the pharmacy if needed. Good luck.

I was given the list too...but was told the ONLY approved pain reliever in an emergency would be TYLENOL, Extra-strength Tylenol and Tylenol PM. No others!!

check again with your doctor, and discuss your specific level of pain you are experiencing. For a different reason I was put on a prescription pain reliver that I took straight through to my midnight cutoff prior to surgery. The only thing I had to do was be sure I did not take the generic version of the drug.
Hope you get some relief soon!
