bladder issues 1 week post op

Had tah-bso last Thursday 6/26. Home Saturday. Having uncomfortable bladder issues. Urgency to urinate, few drops. Got up every hour in the night to go few drops. Dr. sent antibiotics. Seems to have improved some but not gone. How long will this continue? I can handle the incision/pain issues but this is frustrating to me. Anyone with this history? Is this normal? BTW is it UTI or bladder infection? I have never had either before.

I had an TAH/BSO on the 24th. My bladder problems are that I can't feel the urgency to pee. When my stomach starts to hurt, I think gee I must have to pee. Thank goodness, I am not having any problems peeing. When I told my Dr. yesterday about my worries, her only concern was that I was able to pee. Since you are only going drops at a time, I might call the Dr back if I was you. Does it burn when you go the few drops? This would clearly indicate an infection.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hello Vanzandt,
I feel for you--I have bladder issues, too---and they were definately magnified after my surgery!!! If memory serves me right UTI is urinary Tract infection and bladder infection is an infection in the bladder. I think its very important to get the correct anti-biotic for the infection you have. Did your doctor just give you the meds over the phone, or after seeing your urine sample lab results?? Its good to hear the antibiotics have helped some--if its not better in a few days, you might call your doctor again. Did your doctor suggest taking Azo? (OTC help for ugency and pain) These pills have really helped me in the past. (Be sure to talk with your doctor first).
Hang in there, life will be normal again very soon!

Hi there.

I have bladder issues too.......but mine are due to complications when I had my TAH on the 17th. My uterus was sandwiched right up against my bladder, and they knicked it when they removed my uterus. I had to have a foley bag and catheter (sp?) for a week after my surgery (they sent me home with it.....oh joy.....) 6 days after my surgery, I started having problems, so I went in to see my doctor. They removed the catheter, and took a urine sample, determining I had a bladder infection. They gave me antibiotics for 10 days (I take the last one today ). The infection is gone, but it is still slightly painful in my abdomen when I urinate. My doctor said it's due to the healing of the bladder. When it is completely healed, the pain should go away, and if it doesn't, I'll have to call him.

Sorry you are having a tough time too. I hope your antibiotics work.

Forgot one detail, I also had bladder suspension. (stitches not sling). No urine test, just called in antibiotics. I am supposed to let them know if not improved in 5 days, tomorrow. (I know they will be in the office for the July 4th holiday *smile. It is better, I just would like to know it is normal.

Thanks all!

uti

I had a UTI following my TAH and I didn't know because the pain meds were masking my urinary pain. It sounds like you may have the same thing. You should call your doc ASAP! Good Luck!
