Re: How long out of work?
I had TAH on Jan 11, 2010 and was scheduled to return back to work March 1. Although I'm feeling fine and doing great my doctor changed my return back-to-work date to March 22 (8 weeks off). I'm really glad he did because the closer it's getting to March 1, I really thought I should give myself those extra 2 weeks to return. So I guess what I'm saying is don't rush yourself and if you do return to work early be careful and don't overdo it.

Re: How long out of work?
I was replaced while I was out recovering from my surgery (with the boss's wife no less!). It hurt and I was really sad at first. but then I realized that if that is the kind of people o was working for, I was way better off not working for them! I re-structured and set a goal for myself and I'm off and running now I already have an MBA but I have always been so interested in healthcare...so I'm back in school for Medical Transcribing and I plan on using that as a sprinboard to eventually earn my RN - I'm 44 and I've determined to be finished by the time I'm 50.
Thankfully I have a very supportive husband. everyone tells me that I look so much more relaxed and happy....even being unemployed.
I don't regret for a moment being out of work for 6 weeks for my surgery. I needed the time. It cost me my job....and gained me a new career

I dont know, are they allowed to permanently replace you while you are on medical leave? At least they have to pay you unemployment while you go to school.

Re: How long out of work?
If they have less than 50 employees, they do not have to follow the FMLA laws. So..yes - legally, they could do what they did. Ethically....well....what goes around comes around And yes - I'm collecting unemployment while I'm in school. And I'm excited about my new career

Re: How long out of work?
One week out from my LSH now. I'm planning to go back after two weeks. I think it will be more restful to be at work than at home.

Re: How long out of work?
I am a part time Developmental Interventionist for children Birth to 3 yrs. I also have a six yr old and three yr old twin girls. I am not to lift or tug them for a while! Doctor said to take two months off but I may try and go back at 7 weeks to some of my homes where I can sit on the couch and do parent education instead of in the floor playing! I only work like 6-7 hrs a week. I love my job and miss the kids I work with. But, I am still having cramping and a bruised feeling n my abdomin so for now I am just hanging out! Oh yeah, I had SAH with left ovary removed on Jan. 28th!

Re: How long out of work?
I've been approved for six weeks. I have gone from thinking I hit the jackpot (I can't believe they're giving me six weeks. I feel great!) to worrying that I may not be ready to return in six weeks (I tire so easily, I don't sleep through the night, the burning pain that I still feel when I rise from a reclining position.). I'm taking it easy now and I consider each day at home an opportunity to heal further.

Re: How long out of work?
Eden.....rest, rest, rest....resist the urge to "catch up" on things. Resist the urge to push yourself. My real turning point didn't come until 8 weeks post-op. I feel good most days now, but my stamina is no-where near where I was pre-op - and I was/am an avid strenuous exerciser. Sometimes I want to cry when I can't get through a cardio segment or realize that I can't lift the weights that I could before the surery.
You have exactly ONE chance to heal.
Rest.

Re: How long out of work?
I own a furniture, I had my surgery 1/28/10 my first day back on the sales floor was 2/13, customers asked me to move custions & swatch racks, Not overly heavy, but I had pressure in my abdomen & came home spotting. (I had lighter spotting prior to that day,it just got heavier.)
Follow up I told doc i want 1 more week off & he said sure, so today 2/22 I went in, we had tons of snow from a prior storm, so i got in the bob cat & did snow removal. I think the jerking was hard on me, climbing in & out was tough.
I did ok with customers but I left at 2pm. with alot of pain, (took a vicodin) came home & It just seems like prior to having a BM I get very gassy & full of pain but after I go I'm ok. but I took meds too.
Please post how your timing was.
thanks
Diane
