Persistent Low Back Pain
After my surgery, my low back started hurting terribly. I don't know if it's surgery related or just from laying in the hospital bed but it is persistent and painful. The nurse gave me a heated towel to put on it and it helped a lot and, here at home, I've kept a heating pad on it almost constantly. I've never had back problems before and I hope it goes away after I can get up and move around a bit more. Anybody else had this much problem with their back? I almost can't sleep at night because of it...not because of any other issues.

Persistent Low Back Pain
Hi Jpress! I had a sore back at the beginning, while I slept on the couch and spent most of my day on the couch. It was a lower back ache. It was very annoying, but eased up once I got up more and up into my bed, sometime during the second week. Come to think of it, that was also about the time I stopped taking pain pills. I think I was finally able to get comfortable. So it could be where and how you are sleeping. Try using different size pillows to support yourself.
I think I also read somewhere that you can have a lower back ache if they've attached your vaginal cuff to the uterosacral ligament. The pain is then part of the healing process.
Now I only ache if I've been standing too long (sometimes I meet people on my daily walk who love to talk), sitting up too long (at the computer- ), or walk too much (yep, been shopping ).
It should go away. If it gets worse or becomes unbearable, definitely talk to your doctor.
Take heart, things do get better.

Persistent Low Back Pain
Thanks for the help. I've really had no other issues except my back so I guess I shouldn't complain too much yet! I'm only 4 days out of surgery. I'm trying to keep up the walking since I've heard that's the best way to fight off the back discomfort. Thanks again for your quick reply.

Persistent Low Back Pain
I think it just comes with the territory. We're suddenly forced to be in unusual positions constantly while we "guard" the healing parts. I'll be in heaven when I can pop my back again.

Persistent Low Back Pain
My chiropractor told me that when the abdominal muscles are cut, we naturally compensate and use our lower back muscles. I am 11 weeks out and my lower back will still ache especially if I am active.

Persistent Low Back Pain
I came here looking for answers about this very thing. I have a history of degenerative disc disease, long story short I injured by back when I was very young, so I've always "babied" by back. I've been forced to be very careful & know when I've over done something that makes by back hurt. From what I've gathered so far, the position you're placed in for your physician to do the surgery can cause lower back pain especially in those of us who already have a back issue. My physician is thinking surgical neuropathy. I'm not real sure what that means, but I'm researching. However, I started taking Neurotin with Celebrex yesterday & today I want to say that things are a tiny bit better. I had a CT scan yesterday and I'm having a MRI on my spine today. So girls this surgery can indeed have an after effect on our delicate lower backs. Oh not to forget, hot tub soaks help some too.
Thanks for all the info. This place is a God Send!!!

Persistent Low Back Pain
Almost 6 months out here, and I am having more back problems here in the last couple of months than I have at any other time in my life. Not terrible, can't walk ones, but pretty sore! I figure it has to have something to do with the surgery. It makes sense that with the abdominals moved all around that the back would take over. Sort of like shoveling snow pain the next day when I exert myself, but it doesn't last more than a few hours.

Persistent Low Back Pain
I can relate to the back pain. I had severe low back pain before my surgery, though, caused by my "problems" and the doctor had warned me ahead of time that surgery may or may not cure it. It has gotten much better and less frequent than before surgery, so for that I am grateful. But at times, it still is quite bad and even wakes me up sometimes. I just try remember how bad it was before surgery, all of the time, and it helps me get through it better. Best to you...
