LAVH Does everyone get vaginal cuffs?

Sorry if that sounds dumb but my doctor never told me. I had my uterus and cervix removed along with left ovary/tube. My nurse said he would go in look around then cut everything off and sew at the top of the vagina. Never said anything about a cuff.

Yes. If your cervix was removed. Just a term they use

The cuff is simply the name of the incision that closes the vagina after the complete uterus with cervix is removed. Those who keep their cervix do not have that incisions so they do not have a vaginal cuff.

I didn't know about the cuff either until 10 days after when I was back in the hospital due to a severe infection on the cuff... 6 days in the hospital and 1 emergency surgery later I'm in my 5th week post op LAVH 2 week post OP infection the fused bowl to CUFF and made its way to appendix, feeling much better now :-)
