Pros and Cons on taking hormone patches

What r the pros and cons in taking hormone patches? My dr. prescribed Minivelle patches 2x wk. I'm worried about what it can do to my body. My sister-in-law had the same surgery and she does not take anything. We are the same age. My sister had breast cancer about 10 years ago. No one else in family has had breast cancer. Please help!!!!

Re: Pros and Cons on taking hormone patches

I love my minivelle patch! It changed my life! I already how so many hormone issues due to no pituitary gland and it fixed so many issues. I have kept using it since my surgery. I do not have the ups and downs. I do not have hot flashes and I do not have vaginal dryness. I even had more libido that I did before the patch. I like the fact that it does not go through my liver. My blood pressure is back to low normal whereas with pills it was on the high end. I also have no headaches! I plan to get started on testosterone cream when I am healed as well.

Re: Pros and Cons on taking hormone patches

I love my hormone patch too. No night sweats, no up's and downs, no tiredness or sleepless nights. I am protecting my bones, and know that HRT is a lot safer these days than it once was. I had my hysterectomy over a year ago and have had no dramas with it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering. Now tell me a little about the testosterone cream? I don't know anything about this.

Re: Pros and Cons on taking hormone patches

The testosterone cream is to improve libido, sharpen memory and assist with tiredness amongst other things. You usually have a blood test first to see what your levels are at, and if they are low your specialist or doc will prescribe the cream which you rub in to your upper inside arm or outer thigh. The cream is very expensive (at least here in Australia it is) $95 for a small 60ml tube. I was on it for about 10 months, but it just became too expensive for me.
