I'm a wreck!

today is day 6, have dr appt this afternoon for staple removal and path. Everything has been going great, off all pain meds for 3 days, moving around good, even went to the movies last night. So why am I so sad? I can't sleep, finally dozed off for an hour about 4 am, and crying this morning for no reason. I'm already on estrogen pills, so thought that would help. I'm normally a very upbeat person, this is not like me at all! My 12yo DD is very supportive, but 6yo DD doesnt understand and is worried, which makes me feel even worse. my poor DH is just confused Normal? What should I ask DR?

Re: I'm a wreck!

Give yourself a break, you've just had major surgery and, now that you're ovary-less you're going through the menopause - it's completely normal to be a little emotional! I still get upset two months later, especially when I see pregnant women (I don't have kids and always wanted them). It will take some time to get used to the new you, you're allowed to be upset! I'm sure your family will understand if you explain how you feel honestly and openly. Meantime, perhaps you should ask your doctor if you're on the correct treatment?
Hope you feel better soon,
Christina

Re: I'm a wreck!

Hi Rene1215,

Give yourself some time. You're still only 6 days out and your body is still adjusting to the major changes. I know it's hard and frustrating..I am feeling the same way ( I am 2 wks post op) but I have to keep reminding myself to take it easy. Your hormones are driving your emotions right now and could be hampering your sleeping efforts. If the insomnia continues maybe bring this up with your Dr and see what advice they have for you. I know it's hard on our children. I have 2 daughters, 12 and 9, and I know it's difficult for them to understand. Just be reassuring to her that you are okay and that your body is healing and sometimes that makes you feel yucky and sometimes it doesn't. Ask her if she'd like to have a specific chore to help you each day, my 9 yo LOVED this idea so every day after school she sweeps my kitchen floor (in her own way of course) but she feels like she's helping me and she seems less anxious. Hang in there and we are here for you.

Re: I'm a wreck!

I think it is pretty normal. My surgery went well...less pain than my monthly cycle. However I was unusually emotional and had trouble sleeping too. My husband was concerned and confused; he called my mom and she tried to help him not be so alarmed. . I returned to work part time on Day 14 and cried every morning. Now I feel more like myself although not totally normal. It takes time and I made a lot of progress from week two to week three. Some nights I take Benadryl to help with sleeping. I hope you feel better soon.

Re: I'm a wreck!

You may want to see if your Dr needs to up your estrogen. That is what happened to me. I went on estrogen 1 mg (I think it's Estrodiol?) 1 x a day. I am 5 weeks post op. Last Wednesday I got up to go to work, couldn't decide what to wear, started crying and cried for 2 days. Everything was so sad LOL (I can laugh now not then). I talked to my Dr and she put me on 2 mg. I also could not sleep and she recommended Benedryl, but I switched it to Tylenol PM because for whatever reason the benedryl gave me nightmares (my husband says that is silly and in my imagination but I don't normally dream or have nightmares).

And give yourself the OK to be emotional and have a melt down if you need to. I have ahard time with that one myself.

good luck to you and it will keep getting better and easier. But it is definitely up and down.
