Weighty issue
This may be a silly question, but here goes......Just curious as to whether our weight has any impact on recovery. I am a size 18 sister and was wondering if recovery would be harder on plus size ladies compared to our leaner and lighter sisters?

Re: Weighty issue
I am wondering the same thing I am a size 16, 200 lbs with other health issues. I think that issues may come about because we aren't as physically active as a smaller woman.

Re: Weighty issue
Each person will be different. What one experiences may not be what another experiences. Also, it really depends on why you are having the surgery.
I had my TVH 10 days ago. So far, it has been a MUCH easier surgery/recovery then when I had laprascopic gallbladder surgery in April of last year. I'v had very little pain and have only taken Ibuprofen since coming home. I do take something for constipation. I've had no bleeding since being released until this week when I have started a very light pink spotting. This is from the vaginal cuff stitches healing.
I weigh 280 lbs, and my first obgyn kept telling me I would have all kinds of complications with the surgery due to my size.
My pcp referred me to a different obgyn. He was totally different from my first one. He didn't think my size would be a problem and that having the surgery would actually help me in the long run. I bled 2-4 weeks every month, was taking biweekly IV Iron infusions, had NO energy and could barely function. I was actually bleeding to death.
Best decision I have EVER made! I would do it again in a heart beat!. I have so much energy now, its unbelievable. I can't wait to get cleared so I can start my life again.
I wish you both all the best with your upcoming surgery.

Re: Weighty issue
Curvaliscious and Oldmare,
Thanks for your input. I guess we all heal differently and in our own time irrespective of what we weigh.

Re: Weighty issue
I am the same size as you. We are all different. I am doing great on six full days of preop. Its important to drink lots and get up and move around but also rest.

Re: Weighty issue
Blueberryice,
That is certainly reassuring! What type of surgery did you have? I'm having LAVH/BSO.
Continued good health for a great recovery.

Re: Weighty issue
I'm having LAVH/BSO on March 21st. Since I had my D&C in December (and saw on my hospital record that I was considered extremely obese considering my height and weight)I have been walking two miles every day (my DH and I got each other a treadmill for our 33rd anniversary) I've managed to take off about 25 pounds so far and am hoping to lose another 10 or so by surgery time. I was a size 22/24 when I started. Even if you don't have time to lose a bunch of weight - if you are even so inclined - you still might want to begin a walking routine. Doing anything more than what you have been doing is a plus. I'm surprised at how much better I feel already.

Re: Weighty issue
My surgery is on march 20th. I'm looking at this journey as an opportunity to improve exercise and nutritional habits. I guess I can be positive and use this as motivation. I may be losing parts but I can gain a better lifestyle!
