So I made my decision
After tons of soul-searching, reading/researching, and talking to other Hyster Sisters, I have decided to go for the hyster now rather than later. I talked to my doc today and he told me that he would definitely keep my ovaries (provided nothing has changed from my lap in Aug. of 2001), and that he will do his best to give me a vag hyster. He thinks I'm a good candidate, but is unsure due to the fact I had a c-sec in '95. Right now we are working on scheduling. I have yet another decision to make--when to have it. I had hoped to have it around May 8, but that just isn't possible. I am a photographer and have a wedding in early May, then nothing until July 6. It's a very tiny window for healing, yet I worry about being on my period during a wedding--not sure which would be worse?! If I wait until wedding season is over for me, then it looks like it would be around the first part of Oct. It seems so far away, but I know it would get here quickly. I will be making a list to weigh pros and cons (per a Hyster Sisters good advice) and see what date the doc comes back w/. I also think about camping and what that would be like for me after a hyster--we tent camp, no RV's. hmmmm... There are good points and bad points to them both. Anyways, just wanted to give you all an update and thank you for all the advice and care you have given to me! I will let you know when my castle date is set. I have told my DH that I will be getting a Pamper the Princess Shirt for sure! No if's, and's or but's on that one!

So I made my decision
Hi Louieloui,
You must be somewhat relieved having made the big decision. It is a tough one for sure. Despite dealing with fibroids for 15+ years, I wouldn't even consider a hyst and then, about two months ago after much research and soul searching I did a 180-degree turn (much to the surprise of myself and my family) and decided on the hyst. It seemed like it was inevitable to me and if I didn't opt for it now, I'd most likely end up with it later and I didn't want to have to go through a bunch of other processes on my way there. So congratulations to you for having jumped this very big hurdle .
The timing of the surgery is tricky indeed. It's like so many things in life for which there seems never to be a good time. Your healing time will vary depending on the type of surgery you had. I am 33-days post-op TAH. My energy level is improving for sure but it's only at about 75% of what it was pre-op. I have my 6-week post-op visit scheduled for May 8 so I'm still restricted physically from many things. I still have soreness around my incision and just started driving again last week. I'm in bed much earlier than I used to be because I get tired earlier and while I'm sleeping pretty well, I still have one or two nights a week where I wake up during the night and can't get back to sleep.
I don't go camping on a regular basis but I have camped out in a tent and honestly can't imagine doing so in my current condition. But I'm not a die-hard camper (I prefer the kind of camping that offers in-door pools and room service ) so I might not be the best person to ask. Also, I've noticed that sisters who've had TVH seem to have a quicker recovery so hopefully some of them will chime in with their experience and suggestions.
I hope this is helpful to you. All the best to you.
