grey hair

Lately, I have noticed when I color my hair myself or at a salon within two weeks (yes, I said two weeks) the greys around my face are making their appearance. I'm getting very frustrated and am thinking about letting myself go naturale. It doesn't look bad when I wear my hair down, but I pull it up in a ponytail alot. Oh, I'm 52, original hair color is dark brown, which is probably over 50% grey. I don't mind coloring but I refuse to do it every 2-3 weeks. Has anyone seen a coloring wand or pen for this problem. I thought I saw something on tv or magazine awhile ago.

Re: grey hair

I don't know any answers, I wish I did. I had mine highlighted hoping that would help but when you go back to get it touched up I looked like a bleached blond. My hair is naturally very dark brown. So I am back to coloring and it doesn't last a week. When I retire, in 22 months, I am going salt and pepper with mostly salt I think. Too expensive to keep up. I'm 60 so its not such a drastic image maybe...but while I am working I will keep doing it I guess.

Re: grey hair

I am a medium brown naturally and used to have the same problem having to color sooner than 4 weeks. I went to light brown and now it is not as noticeable when the roots grow out. I am over 50% grey now. I started to get my first grey hairs at 21. I don't look good going any lighter than light brown or dark blonde, as I look too washed out.

Re: grey hair

I used to color my hair, sometimes at the hairdresser's and sometimes by myself. I was 50% grey at age 40 and am now 54. Last year, I decided it was time to start going grey gradually, and I'm glad I did. I have my hair colored in highlights now, every 5-6 weeks or so. It is streaked at this point. I wear it back and look a little schoolmarmish (I'm a professor), but it's working for me. Two of my three older sisters still color their hair, and it really shows off their wrinkles. I decided that since I'm in the public eye constantly, it was better just to let the hair begin to seem grey, since I know it's totally grey on top now! Happy end of 2009, ladies, and best wishes for 2010!
