Sleeping sickness!

Hi, I'm due at the castle next Friday and am all over the place (hormones/fear/madness??) at the moment. I decided to take a few days holiday pre-op, even though one colleague said she'd finished work the day before her op because she didn't want too much time on her hands to think. Last week was hectic for me & I felt like a complete air-head because I couldn't remember names and kept doing daft things. Aunty Flo also came to visit and this ensured that I slept badly for 2 or 3 nights in a row, so by the end of the week I was exhausted.
However, I did make my colleagues laugh when I told them that I could get up in a morning, have my breakfast whilst watching tv then fall asleep again the the chair! I've even fallen asleep with my laptop on my knee whilst I've been reading posts on this website. So in some ways I am now looking forward to my op then I can sleep for hours at a time and not feel like a little old lady for nodding off at the drop of a hat!
I'd also like to say thank you so much to my sister who came round today with some beautiful flowers (because I'd told her that flowers are discouraged on the hospital ward due to the risk of infection)so she gave them to me now instead. She also brought my 2 lovely nieces who made me laugh by practising all the yoga positions that I won't be able to do for a while - they really cheered me up

Sleeping sickness!

Helen, I too took off extra days from work just so I could everything done before my SX. The boss was asking for us to take budget days & was very surprised when I asked for 3 of them. I worked @ my job for 2yrs before I called in sick 1 day. The only days I have asked off are the normal yrly vacations. I also took the day before SX off since I will be doing the bowel prep. So they will not see me @ work for the next 6 to 8 wks. I need a break from the 12 to 15 hr days there. I am almost ready to go. I just need to finish up my recovery rm here@hm & pack my bag for the Castle. Glad you took the extra time off. It has helped you relax more hasn't it? Good luck next Friday. Hope that all goes well for you!!

Sleeping sickness!

We share the same surgery date!
That was really nice of your sis to bring round flowers and your nieces for a visit. My nieces and nephews always cheer me up! Maybe we'll have to trade stories once we're through with our surgeries and on the mend.
Take care!

Still sleepy!

I've just logged in & realised that there have been a few replies to my post, which was a nice surprise. Thanks for your message Shutterbug - yes, it would be good to share our experiences post-op. Have your nerves kicked in yet? Mine have & I've been a bit tearful several times this week, but mainly because people who I hardly know have been so supportive & made many offers of help - it's really touching as I'm Miss Independent normally & hate having to ask others for help.
Today I've had a few laughs as my hairdresser was telling stories from her op experience last year (in great detail!) and my cats have also been entertaining me, hiding in drawers whilst I've been trying to tidy things away.
I also went to the health shop to get some supplies and ended up chatting to a lovely lady who is on a wheat & gluten free diet (like me) - she recommended a homeopathic remedy called Arnica to help me with nerves, so I'm trying that now. I'm quite keen on alternative health and have regular reflexology treatments (which I can thoroughly recommend) but tonight I had a Reiki treatment instead as I just wanted something very relaxing - reflexology can sometimes hurt a bit! Anyway I'd better stop now & go and get a good night's rest - good luck to all of you who are sharing the experience on Friday, bye for now

Hello Shutterbug
How are you? I noticed a post from you yesterday - is that right that you were home the day after surgery? What do they do differently in the States? There's no way I would have wanted to come home that soon - I was back at tea-time on Wednesday, feeling exhausted but glad that it was all over & also that I'd had my stitches out so I didn't have to get a lift back to the hospital later. Hope you are resting & getting better.
