Pain during bowel movements - 4 weeks post-hysterectomy

I am 4 weeks post op and am having a lot of pain during or before a bowel movement. I realize this is a weird subject but the pain is as bad as having a bad period. Does anyone else have this or a solution? Also is sex safe this far out? Sorry I'm new :/

Don't know if it helps, but I'm having the same issue. I'm thinking that the bowel gets pretty bumped around during the procedure and bruising can happen. I've been taking pain meds as needed and though I HATE it, I rest when it hurts. My doctor said pelvic rest for 6 weeks so you may want to wait a bit longer for sex. Check with your Dr. to be sure. You wouldn't want to rip open anything that's still healing especially if you're still hurting.

This helps alot. I HATE the pain meds to and only take them when I can't stand it any more. Thanks so much!!!

If you take them before it hurts that much, they're actually more effective. If the side effects are too much, try taking 1/2 to start. I tried the ibuprofen but got heartburn so I take the Rx pain meds. It's so much better than hurting all the time. Remember, it's just for a while until you heal.

Reminder:
the lovely narcotic meds are constipating.

So many fun Catch 22s aren't there?

Have you been taking stool softener. ( I would take one a day, I used Dulco Ease) I had to for the first 2 1/2 weeks then the pain went away. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water and fluids. The first 2 1/2 weeks the pain was bad.

Re: Pain during bowel movements - 4 weeks post-hysterectomy

Narcotics are constipating. I've been taking Metamucil 1-2x per day. BM kicked in 2nd day post-op, after normal peeing resumed. My guts are still floating around bc there's gurgling and gas after I eat. When I walk around, I get belchy and can feel my gassy guts moving around; probably trying to find a place to settle down. I think the gas helps the intestines move itself around. I've had abdominal surgery in the past and it was the same way. Eats lots of fiber, drink water, and walk a lot to get bodily functions moving :-)

Re: Pain during bowel movements - 4 weeks post-hysterectomy

I'm in week 3 of post op, and I have very painful BM's. It hurts before, during, and I have to rest at least 30 minutes after. However, I have Diarrhea. It occurs between 11am and 1:30pm; it's my only BM of the day. I'm hoping to be regular some day soon.
I was diagnosed with IBS in my early twenties, (I'm 45 now), and this surgery has put me in a flare!! I'm even taking pain meds. Nothing really constipates me!

Good luck to all of us!!! We all of our unique issues.

I have stopped taking the narcotics cause I don't really feel the need for them any more. Thanks so much for the advice
