5 days post hysterectomy: Evening fever

I had my TVH on Thursday. The past 2 nights I have had a low grade fever (100.04-100.22). I start to feel yucky, not sore or any extra pain just yucky. I'm assuming this is just part of the healing process? Anyone else get this?
Thnx!

Fever this high is not normal, so I would recommend seeing your doctor. It's likely that the surgical antibiotics have upset the normal balance of bacteria inside your body, allowing an infection to take hold. In addition to what he prescribes, I would recommend a probiotic supplement, or regular servings of live culture yogurt, to restore this balance. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Re: 5 days post hysterectomy: Evening fever

I had abdominal surgery, so was in the hospital the first three nights after surgery. I ran a low fever each night. The nurses muttered and shook their heads and gave me acetaminophen (Tylenol, paracetamol).

My first night home, I woke up in the middle of the night with my nightshirt soaked with sweat. I stripped it off and went back to sleep. The next morning, I remembered the nurses and their acetaminophen. After that I took 500 mg acetaminophen before bed each night for about a week. No more fever or sweats.

CAUTION: Do not take acetaminophen if you're on a pain med that already contains it. Examples would be Percocet, Norco, Vicodin, etc. Google the ingredients of your pain med if you're not sure.
