3am Crime Scene makes me feel better...

HI!

Pre - OP testing is tomorrow. Surgery is Monday.

I was so SUPER nervous and annoyed that I had to have this done but after a 3am visit from a heavy flow I'm feeling better about it.

I'm annoyed. I don't WANT to have surgery....but I'll be dammed if I'm going to live like this for the next 10+- years until menopause.

I have kids (15 and 7) so it makes me real nervous that I'll die and leave them.

Did anyone get a Medical Power of Attorney for their spouse before surgery? I haven't seen any threads about paperwork like that.

Re: 3am Crime Scene makes me feel better...

I've had a medical power of attorney in place for years. They asked me about it during my pre-op meeting. Even if you weren't scheduling surgery, it's good to have that in place, and to discuss scenarios with your spouse. That way if they have to make a tough decision on your behalf, they will at least be at peace knowing it's what you would have wanted.

They will ask you during your pre op registration if you have one and if not would you like to make one.
I feel It's good to know that if something did happen to me, my wishes would be upheld and not those of everyone around me. It's just a precautionary measure.

Re: 3am Crime Scene makes me feel better...

My DH is my medical power of attorney, and I am his. We also set this up several years ago when we did our wills. They asked me also about this at my pre-op. (As well as if I was an organ donor.) This is for their paperwork. This is a good idea to set up, regardless whether or not you are having surgery. Obviously there is not time now.

I know you are nervous - this is very normal. A whole group of doctors and nurses will be right there and will take very good care of you. They will see you through this.
