Short Term Disablility and going back to work.

Hello all, I am looking for some general idea of how this Short Term Disability really works.. I had a single incision Laproscopic Total hysterectomy with removal of large uterus, bilaterally large ovarian cysts and adenomyosis with scraping. My doctor told me he thought prior to surgery that I would probably be able to go back to work in 2-3 weeks. My post op appointment wasnt scheduled for 8 weeks due to his scheduling. I am curious if I am to go back to work should I not be seeing him prior to resuming my activities and will the insurance company even allow it? anyone had experience with this/

Hi, I think the doctor must sign the release paperwork, so you can show it to your employer. Check with you company regarding procedures. Good luck

Re: Short Term Disablility and going back to work.

I had to deal with short term disability while I was off. The insurance would only pay for six weeks off work from the date of surgery. I was not allowed to return to work with out a letter stating that I could return to work without restrictions. My dr office was able to change my six week checkup to five weeks.
It all depends on where you work and what their policies are.

Re: Short Term Disablility and going back to work.

I managed to get my Short term disability to pay me 2 weeks before surgery and up to ten wks past. I had surgery 8-27 an don't go bk to work until 11-5. I have a very physical job. Here I am 5 weeks past surgery and I still feel like crap. I think I have the flu now tho. But u should really ask ur doctor. Mine had no problem doing the paperwork to get my disability to approve my time off.
