I am 9 weeks post op and got my sleep back about two weeks ago. The sleep thing is a very common post-hysterectomy problem as your body adjusts to the loss of hormones. Prior to surgery I used melatonin every night but it would not work after surgery. I have discovered 5-HTP (a natural supplement) and it has worked really well for me. I was very nervous about returning to work without being able to sleep, but this really did work for me and I am not only able to fall asleep but if I wake up to use the bathroom, I am also able to fall right back to sleep with no morning side effects like you can get with some sleep aids. I think you just have to experiment a bit to find what works for you. Try going a non-drug route, though, something you can take for the long run with out problems of dependency or it not working after awhile.

Re: Can't fall asleep

I took 2 Tylenol PM's last night and they did let me sleep for about 4 hours. Then I was up again. So I took 1 more and slept the rest of the night, but I am NOT comfortable taking that many even for a second night.

So when I see my doctor in a couple of hours, I'll ask if he can prescribe a sleep aid that will work a bit better, that I don't have to overdose on just to sleep. *sigh*
