Novasure

At my doctor's appt. yesterday, she thought I would be a good candidate for Novasure. I felt good in my decision, but now second guessing (of course). Many of the posts I've read about the failed ablation talk about the uterus being too large. Of the ablation "flunkies", do any of you know what the size of your uterus was? In my ultrasound, mine measured 9.1 x 5.3 x 5.6 Any idea how large that is? Naturally I think of this question AFTER leaving the doctor's office.

I'm 35 with heavy bleeding, 2 periods a month, no pain really

Novasure

My younger sister had the Novasure procedure done in an effort to avoid a hysterectomy. She is thrilled with the results. She hasn't had a period in over a year, and is pain free for the first time in over 20 years. She does not know what size her uterus is, but the doctor never mentioned that as an issue. Her only regret is she waited so long to do something about her adenomyosis.

Novasure

Hi Georgia,

I'm one of the "failed" Novasure sisters. Novasure is not recommended for women whose uterus is 12 cm or larger. I don't know my exact dimensions, but my uterus was almost 13 cm when I went in for surgery. After they dilated me and did D&C hysteroscopy, they inserted the Novasure wand. It would not operate. The machine sent back an error code that the uterus was too large. Of course, I wish my Dr. and the Novasure rep who was present had done their homework and known this ahead of time. I was heartbroken because I wanted my bleeding to be over with -- not to worry now though since I had a hysterectomy.

There is an excellent website for endometrial ablation -- can't recall the address but know it shows up if you Google it. Most women have great success with Novasure if they are good candidates. If it had worked for me I would have been ecstatic. I wanted hysterectomy to be the last resort, and it was.

I hope it's a success for you, however, if you do go the hysterectomy route, there are millions of happy women that can make you feel better about your decision.

Good luck,

Linda
