How long before surgery?

My doctor called me in two days ago and said it is time for a hysterectomy as my CT-125 has been increasing, and I have other symptoms. I have to meet with the onc surgeon in a week and then schedule surgery. It seems like a long time to have to wait! What is a normal amount of time? I would have liked it to move faster.

My wait was 9 days. I'm not sure what, or if, there is a normal time to wait. I guess if there was extreme worry on the drs' part they would want you in much sooner. Good luck to you!

From what you have written, it looks like cancer is suspected? What kind of cancer? What are they basing the suspicion of cancer on? Having an appointment with the oncologist in a week is doing pretty good actually. I am sure that once he evaluates all the information your present doctor has, he will either schedule more tests or for surgery.

It seems to be different for each person. I have read of some sisters who got in for their surgery in like a week. I am having Da Vinci and had to schedule around a vacation - so I will have had a 12 week wait !!!!! Horrible to wait...

With a cancer scare and depending on what your other symptoms/signs are I would think that you might get in rather quickly...but it just depends... as you can see from thess boards.....every situation and Doc seems to be different.

Well, everyone and every doctor has a different idea of "normal!" Really, the schedule for when a woman will have surgery depends on many things such as what is your diagnoses, how many doctors need to be involved and when can they all manage to schedule together, how often does your doctor do surgery (once a week, three times a week, once a month), how many patients does your doctor already have scheduled for surgery -- then it comes down to who is the most critical, how fast will your insurance approve surgery, on and on.

So it is possible you could see the oncologist and have to wait a few weeks. Or he could have you in surgery that very day!

I waited 6 weeks for my surgery. There was no cancer suspected. It really depends on how many doctors will be there, and how often they do surgery. My doctor operated one day a week every other week. I am sure that your doctor is getting you in as fast as possible.

I learned on June 5 that I would need to have a hysterectomy. On July 1, I got a call from the surgery scheduling nurse and was set up for Aug. 6. Cancer was not a factor in my case and there were no other emergencies, so it is an 8 week wait for me.
