Fainted 48 hours post hysterectomy

I felt very dizzy & nauseous on way home from hospital all evening, couldn't eat tea. Passed out on loo at 3am then felt fine after! Anyone else have this?

Poor you

I don't think it's too unusual after major surgery - you've had an anaesthetic/medication, blood pressure may not be as stable, not eating or drinking normally, and an organ removed from your body!
I felt a bit dizzy in the shower, post op day 3 but didn't actually faint.

Hopefully you'll feel better soon - rest up and look after yourself x

Re: Fainted 48 hours post hysterectomy

Yes, I was the same way the day after my LAVH. Even when I got home, I had to fight fainting. Dr said partly from all the pain meds I had taken(Iv and oral), and due to the blood loss and shock to my body of the surgery. My procedure was the 16th and it has definitely subsided since I started eating food and drinking more water/ fluids. Every day you will feel a little better.

Re: Fainted 48 hours post hysterectomy

Anesthesia and pain meds can drop your blood pressure, which can take several days to stabilize. Make sure you're eating and drinking tons of fluids to help your body flush the meds. Take it slow when you change positions like when you sit up after laying down, stand up after sitting, etc as those movements naturally cause our BP to drop a bit, but can be more noticeable after surgery. Remember to listen to your body!! If you feel lightheaded or dizzy, sit or lay down!! You can't fall off the floor!!

Re: Fainted 48 hours post hysterectomy

Thanks all for your input!
In the end I put it down to the fact that my blood pressure was low-unusual for me! On top of that they'd given me my blood pressure tablet that day.
I hadn't eaten tea as I felt nauseous on way home which continued all evening, until I passed out then I felt much better!
& it was the first time I'd really been up & about, walking out to car & 45min drive home!
I've been very careful since. Eating & drinking sitting for a while before getting up. & hubby was making sure he was with me every time I had to go to loo-think I scared him!! He's been brilliant!
As have all the ladies on here! I feel like I have a new set of friends!
