Hi BBNH -
I am glad you have your date. Keep in mind that this is MAJOR SURGERY, and no matter how they enter your tummy you will have much internal healing to do. You will not be bedridden, but you will need to rest much. You will also be doing lots of brief walks. You will need help with cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry, shopping, driving, etc. For recovery time, you need to think in terms of weeks and not days.
So you do need to prepare your household for your down time. Here are
10 Tips for Preparing for Your Hysterectomy. Be sure to read the related articles.
What I found most helpful were the following:
-Meals in the freezer that can be put in the microwave.
-Easy foods for breakfasts and lunches
-Loose fitting clothing (I spent 12 weeks in sweats and old shorts)
-Small pillow go hold against your tummy for coughs and sneezes
-Recovery corner with pillows and blankets
-Super clean your house (you will not be doing that for some time)
-Get your hair cut (sounds weird, but it avoids sitting in those chairs for some time after surgery)
Just know that you are not alone in this. We are here for you.
