2 week TVH questions
Ok, I am officailly 2 weeks post-op TVH and I am not sure if what is going on is normal. Everytime I go to the bathroom, it hurts really bad to urinate and it is almost unbearable to move my bowels. I am taking a full strength laxitive per my DR orders because my bowels haven't hardly moved in 2 weeks now. I feel a lot of pressure and almost like a severe twinge of pain when I have to to anything in the bathroom. And my DR said that the discharge should be cleared up in about 2 weeks, and instead it has gotten heavier. It is not like I am bleeding heavily or anything but he said 2 weeks and it is now 2 weeks and it is still there. I am pretty sure that it is all vaginal. And I wanted to thank everyone for the answers on my other post, I really appreciate it as my DR is quite termy and it is very hard to understand a lot of the things he is telling me in big old medical terms. The cramping I was feeling the other day he did managed to rule as it was just normal cramping associated with my bowels, and I thought I had done something when I stepped off the stairs the wrong way, glad that wasn't it. I do feel good but yesterday I spent most of the day laying around, I didn't even feel like getting dressed so I stayed in my sweats. Will my energy levels return sometime soon? For me to lay around is not normal, I am a very active person up and on the go constantly. Oh and thanks for the rice bag idea, it worked wonders. My dh fixed it up for me and once the heat relaxed the muscles, I went to sleep and slept most of the night away, without a pain pill. I so wish I could take my advil again but with as bad as my allergies have gotten to motrin and related products, I don't dare. i hope all the other princesses are doing well and get to feeling better soon. I have read so many of the other threads and so many other women are in a lot worse shape than me, my prayers are with you for a safe and full recovery. Thanks everyone. Clara

Some of what you relate about bathroom issues are so like I felt at 1-2 weeks. I became so constipated it was awful- never felt pain like it. The dr decided to get me back to hospital as I couldn't pee either in the end. I too felt very lethargic having started my recovery feeling really well. They helped me move the bm (ouch!!!) and also I got a catheter for a few days but at least I went home. My urine tested an infection so I needed anti biotics. It was considered to be a reaction the medication as I was eating lots of fibre, drinking water, walking but boy did I do even more of all that afterwards!!!
I am not trying to be alarmist- maybe your symptoms aren't as bad but do get yourself checked out if it carries on.
By the way I carried on with a discharge for about 6 - 7 weeks, which is quite normal apparently.
Good luck- let me know how you get on.

Thanks marianni, it kinda helps to know that the things I am going through are part of the normal. I am going to call my DR tomorrow though cus I just started running a fever this afternoon and feeling really crumby. I'm not sure why I would come down sick now. I have followed all of the orders and stuff. My dh is being really great about everything though, making me take it easy and sit still and not over do it at all. I wish every woman had a hubby like mine then there might be a more perfect world with happy marriages. Also too, is it normal for a woman that didn't have her ovaries removed to have sever hot flashes and mood swings? Just curious. I went through about 6 different mood swings today that were just as bad as when I went through them with my pregnancies. First I was growly, then snappy, then, bawling over I am not even sure what, then back to happy, then back to bawling, I mean it was like a major emotional rollar coster. Is that normal or should I worry about that as well? The DR did tell me that I might have some hot flashes and stuff because my ovaries might get shocky after the surgery but I wasn't prepared for one minute be fine and the next want to strip totally naked cus I was so hot I couldn't stand it. Thanks for the help and support though, cus I am really confused about myself now, I've never been this emotional.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing to call the dr as a fever isn't right.
I had ovaries removed too but it is common, I gather from here, that ovaries take a while to get back into action. All those internal organs take a while as my bowels and bladder confirmed!
Take care and let me know how you get on with dr. My dh is great too, when I felt so awful he didn't go into work and insisted we rang and spoke to the consultant. We are very lucky!

I am almost 2wks post-op. I haven't had the bathroom problems you are having or the temp'. I do have the discharge though. It comes & goes. It seems to come more when I am more active. But I have read so much that this is normal.
Re: Everytime I go to the bathroom, it hurts really bad to urinate and it is almost unbearable to move my bowels. I hope s/he can help you out.
P.S. I wish that my DH was more like yours. Everytime I asked anything of him, he gets an attitude, and snaps back at me. I will be able to :steer: soon and I am ready to get away from him for a few hrs Every day.
and Hope things get better for you real soon.

Karen, I think they are just not good at multi tasking (and so on). My dh was a great support but had strange priorities around the house and could go ages before doing something I'd requested, then it seems like nagging.... I remember a particularly smelly bin that wasn't emptied for days as I couldn't lift it. Why???? Had his sense of smell gone???
The discharge is very normal. Mine got progressively less and changed from blood like to brownish to yellow to clear. My consultant said it would stop when the internal stitches were finally out/healed. It did co incide with seeing a couple of stitches. I wasn't expecting it to carry on for quite so long though.
How are you feeling Clara?
Best wishes to you both.

Banchie, it sounds like you have a UTI. It shouldn't hurt when you have to go pee & that is a characteristic sign of an infection, esp. since you are running a fever now. Definitely call your doctor & let him know what's going on. Hope you feel better soon!

2 week TVH questions
I called my DR first thing this morning, unfortunately, this is surgery day and he is on surgical rounds at the hospital. But I talked to his nurse and she had to wait until teh nurse midwife/ PA came in to ask her what to do. They too think I have picked up a UTI, which is just great. I was following my orders to a tee, I tried to not over do it but I was getting the low dose of exercise that I needed, I am drinking water by the gallon, eating lots of fiber and stuff. She also thinks that the laxitive they gave me might be too strong for my system and is the culprit of the severe cramps that I have been experiencing. So I am going in this afternoon and they are gonna check me all out to make sure that it is just a UTI cus the other thing they suggested was that I possibly pulled some of my stitches lose or something. I will post more probably this evening once I am done with everything. Thanks for the help and support all.

Don't get mad at yourself if it is an infection. I did all the right things too- sometimes it just happens apparently. My dr went to great lengths to stress I probably hadn't done the wrong thing.

My dr told me it'll be normal for discharge for 4-6 weeks, and it's heavier when I'm more active. I've been drinking a glass of prune juice every day to keep regular, with a ton of water. I wouldn't wait on calling the dr because of your temp, I was told if it goes over 100.4 to call imediately!
Take Care
