Hair and skin- ugh.........

Hello Ladies,
I'm almost 4 weeks out post op. I am now fighting really dry hair and my skin is breaking out! Have any of you had this problem? Do you have any suggestions as to help? I had my hysterectomy on May 16th and had everything removed. I am on estrogen replacement. I didn't know I would look like I'm going through puberty again! Ugh...... :hair:

As a matter of fact I have the opposite. My skin was breaking out before my hysterectomy and now it's cleared up. I think I was very run down and plagued with chronic inflamation, as well as wild hormones and stress. My mood is more calm and upbeat too.
Probably some sisters need HRT and some just need a break from the effects of their own hormones.

Hair and skin- ugh.........

I know how you feel. Since my surgery I feel that I look awful. My hair is limp and my skin has lost all of its glow. I complained to my dh and he said I was being silly. But really what is he going to say? "Yeah honey you look like crap?" I really hope someone has advice on how to get back to normal.

Hair and skin- ugh.........

There was another thread just a few days ago with several posts regarding acne. My dermatologist recommended Neutrogena products, specifically with salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy acid. Used daily it helps prevent further breakouts as well as clearing up current breakouts. I use the cleanser, moisturizer and the sunscreen (the SA & AHA will make you more sensitive to sun). I've used Clinique products and they are really good as well. The Neutrogena is less expensive though and can be found in any drug store. Clinique you can buy on-line & mine was always delivered in 2-3 days. Some products contain benzoil peroxide but my dermatologist told me it was too strong for my sensitive & thin Irish skin. When I tried it it left me with yucky red dry patches. Some swear by Proactive but I haven't tried it. If mine were really severe cystic acne I probably would.
For hair, the best moisturizing deep conditioner I've found is from Garnier, a hair masque. You might ask your stylist what she/he recommends. Hope this helps and good luck. I know from experience how awful it is to deal with acne.

Me too

I'm going through the same thing! I thought I was the only one.
They won't let me do HRT due to proliferative breast disease.

hair and skin

I am 8 days post-op and I look like "death warmed over"; not a pretty sight. My skin seems to be more on the dry side and my hair has no bounce to it. I am so glad I don't have a SO or am married. I am able to heal without the worry of looking unattractive or having to do the "bed chore" . My son (16) doesn't care; he just wants me to get well and has been my primary support through this.

Hair and skin- ugh.........

Hi Sisters!

Sometimes as the anesthesia is flushed from your body it can cause your hair to go crazy and your skin to break out. Drinking lots of water can help with this, too.

My hair was dry and icky for quite awhile. It can sometimes take months for the effects of the anesthesia to get out of your system.

Take care and hang in there!

ugh

It is good to know I'm not alone. My hubby doesn't say much about it- just that it will get better. he's more concerned that I heal up. I just hate the fact that my skin was finally getting pretty and now- here we go again. I have been using a salic acid face wash and lotion already, but it just isn't cutting it right now. I have been using a heavy conditioner and even got my hair trimmed. I might be feeling a little down and that is just making it worse. Let me know if any of you find the magic cure!

Best of luck,
Leslie

I am three weeks post op and my face cleared up but my hair has been falling out and is extremely dry. It just doesn't seem fair with everything else that us princesses are having to cope through with recovery, does it?

My hairdresser told me Wednesday night that the anesthesia will cause me problems for a few more weeks. After getting it cut, colored and a conditioning treatment, it is a lot better and not falling out as much.
