Re: Fibristal and Acessa
Hi Everyone,
Home and resting now. Had my surgery on Thursday and happy to say that all went well. They were able to do it laproscopically! Still a bit tender, but overall feeling pretty good. Fingers crossed that the healing keeps moving along at this pace
Thanks for all the support!

That's great, wishing you well in your recovery. How long was the surgery? Are you in the USA?

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
The surgery was 3 hours in total and about 2 hours to come out of anaesthetic. I was in hospital for 2 days - had a bit of a rough night the first night, throwing up - ugh. But feeling overall pretty good now.
I'm in Vancouver, BC. Had a great surgeon who even called yesterday to check in!
Feeling very grateful.

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
I'm almost done with Fibristal . Doc wants me to do a second 3 month Fibristsl treatment but I need to have 2 menstral cycles begore I start again. He says my lining should shed for 2 months before I get back on Fibrustal. Has anyone done this?

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
oh interesting! I would have definitely done another round of Fibristal, but it's only approved for the first 3 month round in Canada right now. That being said, now that I'm on the other side of this surgery, I'm happy that I've had it done. Though the fibristal worked great for me in shrinking the fibroids and being lucky to have no side effects, my doctor assured me that eventually the fibroids would grow back...
I had a friend go through 2 surgeries to remove her fibroids before finally having a hysterectomy. Surgery is pretty major, so I understand wanting to avoid it if possible. It has to make sense for you.
Keep us posted on the second round.
All the best

Fibristal and Acessa
Thank you TVQ
I'm in Canada so the Fibristal is approved for 3 months at a time. Went for an ultrasound today to see if it has shrunk! Probably only 20-30% though.

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
Oh wow....I did not think it had been approved for more than 3 months. I'm in Vancouver. Mine had also shrunk by about 25%, but it was enough that they could get everything laproscopically. I was very happy about that!!
How are you feeling on it now? I did have a few cycles within the first month off of Fibristal and before surgery. They were pretty "normal" and not the heavy craziness that they were prior to going on it. So even if you have to do a couple cycles before doing another 3 months, hopefully it will be okay
Cheers

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
Hi TVQ, hope you are recovering well! I have no symptoms with the fibroids other than bulking ( no bleeding at all) the fibroid is 13 cm so I look like I'm 6 months pregnant and I'm 49. Not use to being this big as I'm a runner. No running now!!! No side effects from the Fibristal either. No hot flashes and no headaches. I just worry as it is a new drug so I was hoping to avoid a second round.
Keep well and take it easy!!!

Re: Fibristal and Acessa
Hi Somesunshine,
Oh, good that you don't have the crazy bleeding from the fibroids! But I so hear you on the bulking - it's awful. The last time I was at my GP, she just looked at me and said "oh, it's time!" and then brought on of her students in to see, who's response was simply "oh wow!". I think I was in denial about how big my belly actually looked! I also stopped running some time ago - looking forward to getting back into it in a few months time. Is your doctor wanting you to do a second round to avoid surgery, or are you already scheduled?
I get wanting to avoid a second round due to it being a new drug also. This whole journey has been so complicated, but I have to say, now that I've actually had the surgery, I'm feeling quite liberated!
Hang in there!

Fibristal and Acessa
Yes, he's trying to see if we can shrink it down to both avoid surgery and also because it must be a certain size for the laparoscopic surgery. I see him again next week to get the results of my ultrasound! Apparently, studies have show that it shrinks more the 2 time around when on Fibristal. I am on the wait list for surgery , probably not till September though.
