is ther such thing as not needing HRT

Hellooooo!
I am 8 days post op from LAVTH. I don't have a uterus,cervix,tubes or overies anymore. I'm 42 and I am not having any hormone related affects. I had night sweats a little bit before surgery and I've had a little of that post op and maybe a hot flash or two since surgery, but nothing that is intolerable. Is it possible that my hormone producing ability hasn't been working for a while, and I have already gone through this stuff without realizing it? Is it possible to not need any HRT? I would appreciate any input.

Some people sail through memopuse with little or physical or mental symptoms. Some like myself choose not to or can not do HRT and have to manage the symptoms.

For me I have been having a few hot flashes and night sweats nothing horrid. There are other benifits to HRT than just managing the symptoms of menopuse but there are risks as well. Whether to do HRT is a subject to discuss with your doctor so you can go over the pros and cons for your preticular situation.

I've had a few mild hot flashes (I call them power surges!) but my doctor when we talked about this pre-op, told me that sometimes women don't need any HRT at all while others do. I remember him telling me that it varies from person to person and while maybe my sister or mother needed HRT, I might not. So far, thank God, I'm like you and nothing that cannot be tolerated! At 40 y/o, I hope that I can get by without them!! Take care and happy recovery!!

I wish I could say the same. I have had lots of issues with depression and mood. These are getting better now that I am trying some HRT.

If you don't need anything for the outword changes make sure that you and your Dr. follow the effects of loosing estrogen early has on your bones. I believe they do bone scans every several years to make sure you are not loosing too much. You should also be taking calcium and vit d suppliments.

The other thing that should be monitored is the health of the vaginal tissue. Some women have problems with vaginal atrophy. It can be reversed with some estrogen cream. If you are still seeing your GYN once a year he/she will be able to monitor that. Don't be afraid to bring it up if there are issues.

It took me until I hit six weeks. That last week I got tired of the night sweats getting worse and not getting enough sleep. I was only getting a couple of hours towards the end. I talked to both my gyn and family doctors. Neither one wanted to give me sleeping pills. They both felt HRT was the best choice. It is a very personal choice. I did not want to do HRT and felt somewhat like a failure when I started taking it, but I had this surgery to improve my quality of life. I chose to give HRT a chance to make sure that I got that quality of life. I was also having trouble with my blood pressure and HRT seems to have helped that as well. I am feeling so much better.
