is my doctor clueless or are we?

I saw my doc for the first time since surgery. I am 3wk post TAH. I was half joking by telling him please tell me that I'm still swollen and that my abdomen hasn't accumulated excess belly fat! He said, that I should be able to fit into my jeans and the only explanation he could come up with is that maybe I am swollowing gas. Swollowing gas???? I don't get it. Everyone here has talked about the swelly belly and my doctor didn't even acknowledge that a rounded belly is normal after surgery. I have been impressed with him up to this point. What gives?
The other thing is, I told him I was back to normal for housework and he said "good, you look great". I am coming along quite well but he sure doesn't seem to go with the flow of this forum. Hmmm?
Oh ya, one more thing. I lost 7lbs so the belly fat thing doesn't make much sense.

My understanding is that the swelly belly comes from all the gas (which could just be air) remaining in the abdomen as well as just the trauma of surgery. As far as the housework, I'd be really careful about vaccuming -- there's something about the particular motion.

I have been following the guidelines on here. My doc has told me to take it easy but be sure to be active (walking). Of course, I'm not a doctor, so I don't want you to think I'm any sort of pro, but it seems that listening to you body is the best idea. If you feel swollen and unconfortable at times, it is just swelly belly - it' true. NO VACCUUMING! Look at the Hyster Sister Checkpoints - those have been a lifesaver to me. If I think I'm ready to run a mile, I read it and it tells me to keep my butt in bed or regret tomorrow. Truly - listen to your body and to 90% of the other sisters when they say 'Jeans! At 3 weeks!?!?!' It's not common.

I read somewhere that after the surgery, they fill you with saline to keep your organs from sticking together. That would make you bloated or swollen, but the dr. should know about that ...I'm 6 weeks post op tomorrow and still have belly. Not so bad in the morning. I can start the day with my normal clothes, but afternoon have to change into spandex. Oh well, this to shall pass.
