Waiting on date (reaction to anesthetic, sedation in ICU)

Hi all glad I've found this site, it puts my mind abit more at ease, I'm awaiting a date for my hysterectomy it should be at some point in March, I'm very nervous as when I awake from general anesthesia I go completely mad with no recollection of my antics, my doctor has decided to try a different approach this time and is putting me into intensive care so that they can sedate me as required has anyone experienced this .

Re: Waiting on date

Hi Maggs8116 to HysterSisters!

I am glad your doctor is aware of your unusual reaction to anesthetic. It sounds like a logical approach to allow your system to come slowly out of this with sedation.

These are powerful drugs, and everyone reacts differently to them. Hopefully your doctor's plan will work.

My mom just had her ovaries removed today with a spinal and sedation due to heart problems. Went wonderfully. Just a thought.

Re: Waiting on date (reaction to anesthetic, sedation in ICU)

Your Dr sounds like he is taking the situation seriously. ICU staff is prepared to deal with situations that require close attention, and it sounds like what you need. Recovery rooms are set up more for quicker in and out, is my understanding, so ICU can watch you longer, too, another plus. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.
