One week after hysterectomy: Questions

Hello ladies,

I had my hysterectomy last Wednesday March 23 it has been a bit more painful then my 2 past csections but overall I feel good.
I have couple questions if anyone can help me please.
1st: is the numbness on my thighs normal and for how long will it last?
2nd: I have lots of burning sensation on my incisions it is quite painful sometimes. What can I do about it?
3rd: I'll be staying home with my 2 year old starting next Wednesday hubby goes back to work, any tips or recommendations my dr told me I can't lift anything heavier the a gallon of milk for 6 weeks and we have no family here where we are. Anything that you ladies can advise me please I'm kind of concern about that. I don't want my daughter to feel neglected or hurt myself.
Thank you in advance.

Johanna

Hi Johanna

The numbness in your thighs could be residual from surgery, and complicated by being less active. As you are able, do try to walk a little bit at time to keep things circulating. (but don't over do)

The burning sensations, have you tried cold compresses or ice on them? Also stay on top of your pain meds until that settles down. Hopefully others will have advice here.

Taking care of the two year old. The television is your best friend right now. Also reading time, new coloring books, or new cheap toys that can be given out as toddler becomes bored would be very helpful. Try to go through the routine you have with your toddler to see what accommodations need to be made. A step stool or chair at sink for washing hands? Moving nap time to an easier location? At the end of the day, they are resilient. My two year old at the time got away with a lot bc. I could not discipline him as usual...I could not carry him to time out if he would not walk there etc. So yes, regression may happen, but once you are better, you can start retraining.

I'd try to figure out what things really appeal to your particular toddler and work those into the day. Standing at the bathroom sink with a boat in the water....yes the floor becomes a mess that dad has to dry up when he returns....or you throw a towel on the floor and toddler gets to do that as well. It may be a novel experience s/he enjoys. So be creative but be prepared not to sweat the small stuff.

Good Luck!
